On 26 December, I said "I don't want to wear out my welcome."
I still couldn't stay away and on the 30th responded to ericsaid's asinine why-is-Navy-even-ranked question with some factual data.
In the course of that exchange, runninjoe said, "Navy better beat Kansas State before they argue..." so when we did, I returned. In those couple posts I noted that I expect Appalachian State to end up the top-ranked non-contract-bowl-conference team.
Have a great 2020 - I'm back to "I don't want to wear out my welcome."
Navy is ranked 8 spots behind a team that beat them by 32 points. Either Notre Dame is underrated, which I believe that they were, or Navy is overrated. It's a simple preposition and completely valid.

Too much paint in the diet causes that type of disassociation.

We return a P5 level QB in Bonner and will still have a great group of WRs. Blake Anderson has to be pissed after getting publicly rebuked by other universities for the mediocrity he has mostly achieved here. He wants a raise and to move on.
You guys are breaking in a new coach so idk if you can say that. See you at the Liberty Bowl.
so does Memphis. Brady White is a four-star Arizona State transfer who's thrown for 6800+ yards these past two seasons.
You're bragging about an overrated guy you couldn't sign out of high school and couldn't cut it at the school he chose to attend? Nice...
Meh...you have to understand who you are talking to here first. Memphis fans are trying very hard to live in the moment. They have little historical success to back up their recent success, but hope by pulling the AAC thing and slightly changing the narrative, they can pretend they've been very good all along.
There are those of us who still remember this
I didn't realize Hugh Freeze was still coaching at Arky State? Or that Larry Porter was Memphis' coach?

Win over 11-2 Air Force, better than any G4 ooc win. Better than any App State win period.
Win over 10-3 SMU - ranked 8 spots ahead of Louisiana going into bowls, so could remain a SECOND win better than anything App State has. Navy wins #3-10 are also better than App State's wins.
FBS rankings:
Navy offense points per game #11
Navy offense total yards per game #18
Navy offense rushing yards per game #1 obviously
Navy defense total yards per game #22
Navy defense total points per game #38
Navy's only losses are to the #15 and #17 teams. While #17 may drop after loss to #10, almost certainly stay top 25 and #15 should move up. Compare to a loss to #63 (and dropping after loss to #95 Liberty).
You keep being you, though, ericsaid.
35-3 at half? Sounds like a top 25 team to me. Navy better beat Kansas State before they argue about how great their losses are
But no comment about how Navy WINS are better than anything in the SunBelt or other G4s? Check. You've acknowledged that I'm right.
App had more Top 40 wins according to ESPN's FPI than any other G3 teams.
Come at me bro.
Who?
Not Louisiana. They're #42.
Which means Memphis has just as many "FPI Top 40 wins" at two as App State.
Sidebar - if FPI has 4-8 South Carolina at #39, that kind of tells you what you should know about using it as an ordinal ranking.
However, if you like ESPN's FPI...then to judge resumes you should look at the FPI "Strength of Record." Navy is #21 in Strength of Record and App State is #18.
(Rankings I used were CFP where applicable, Massey Composite otherwise. The composite of 106 rankings means you're not subject to a single ranking being ridiculed, as is easy with any thing saying 4-8 South Carolina is #39 in the country.)
Oh, I just checked ESPN FPI again.
App State has one win over a team in the top 40 of ESPN FPI, UNC.
Memphis has three wins over Cincinnati and Navy.
Navy has two wins over Air Force and KState.
Boise has one over AF.
Cincinnati has one over UCF.
I suppose you could add GSU, GaSo, AirForce, Wyoming and maybe others as equalling App in this metric you chose.
Again, I fully expect Appalachian State to finish as the highest ranked of the non-contract-bowl-conference teams. Congrats on a great season.

Congratulations on having the highest ranked G5 this year. The AAC is definitely the cream of the crop G5.
When comparing ourselves to our peers, we want to be like the best, so the AAC and MWC are the next in our sights here in the SunBelt.
