How hard has UH become? Maybe they are now tier one...

The Applewhite scandal strikes again. He definitely belongs in the SEC.

UH Football & Volleyball Hit With Level 2 NCAA Violations
Um, so this affects three 2018 games, but the article does not say which ones.
So, Did we get the Bucket, or not?

Follow up: the NCAA may not know which games yet, since these are self-imposed. From the NCAA release:
Quote:A vacation of records in which the football student-athlete competed while ineligible (self-imposed by the university). The university must provide a written report containing the contests impacted to the NCAA media coordination and statistics staff within 14 days of the public decision release.

I'm fairly certain that the Chron article is wrong about the official W-L records. If our game is involved, we don't get the Bucket. Houston would stop counting the game as a win, but it doesn't become a forfeit loss. Likewise, I think we could stop counting it as a loss for our record books, but we don't flip it to a win. It's just a "no decision" in the records. Our season result would change from 2-11 to 2-10 with an asterisk. Since UH already had the Bucket going into the game, they will keep it.
For the extreme example, USC is officially 0-1 for the 2005-'06 season with the lone result of record being the Rose Bowl national championship loss to Texas. Due to the sanctions later put on Reggie Bush, none of their wins are counted as anything other than a "game played." There is no 2005 PAC-10 football champion.

Let's just win the Bucket and not worry about the rest!

So did we, but we said no thanks. Imagine the boost to the program from a yearly schedule of the current SEC West (give or take a few additions/subtractions due to our being there.) Those would have been great teams to see year-in, year out come to HRS. Might have given the newer teams in Houston a run for top draw, and had a completely renovated HRS to boot. Any investment Rice would have made would have likely more than repaid itself, and then generated enormous extra revenue for the school and the program, lifting all sports teams; plus we'd be considered on the same tier as Vandy, instead of slipping below.
Sure, we'd have started as a doormat, but over time, we could have leveraged that into at least occasional greatness if we wanted to, maybe learning from TCU how to take our program up to be able to play with the big boys. Plus, the national exposure for the school would have been a tremendous positive boost versus where we ended up currently.

Let uh keep the bucket until Rice earns it or the sun goes nova, whichever comes first. I don't want it on a forfeit.

stupidest Rice decision of all time, eclipses perhaps either the Greenspan or Bob Polk hires

This is how bad I think that decision was. I think if we had been in the SEC all these years instead of where we've been, not only would our athletics be better, with the increased revenues generated and the increased exposure and looking at Vanderbilt's trajectory over the last 25 years, I'd say Rice would probably be a top 10 University or very near it. Certainly closer than we are today.
