Exclamation The "other" semifinal game: Montana State at NDSU (2pm, ESPN-2)
Bizon are 17' pt favorites at home (O/U = 48)

Seems like way too much at first glance. I think the Bizon may win, but by 17+...hmmmm...I dunno.

Keeping up with this game will be of interest while prepping for our big game.

MSU will 100% cover that. I like them to win if they turn the ball over less than two times. The game will be on at our tailgate for sure.

All the stats/computer models seem to say NDSU wins by at least two scores (Versus has them as -10) ... of course the same computer models predicted even bigger blowouts against Nichols and ISU also.

I like MSU in this game. If they are able to run the ball straight at the bison like teams have done the past two weeks, they should win. MSU dominated a pretty darn good Montana team.

MSU is playing pretty good right now. If NDSU struggles on offense, MSU could have a chance.
I think NDSU is going to win, but I do think it's a very close game and NDSU edges them out in the 4th.
Personally, I'd rather face NDSU. I was us to be the ones to end their season and shut them up(just like 2016). Revenge for 2017 is also a reason.
A JMU/NDSU championship game would be great ratings and I'm sure ABC is rooting for that to happen. MSU/Weber St would be a nightmare scenario for ABC.
MSU has a pretty solid following but not comparable to NDSU. Definitely would be a better turnout than YSU.

I think Frisco is full either way, just a whole lot more purple vs MSU. One thing about 2017 is I do think the crowd noise had some impact on our players at the end. Not saying MSU wouldn't be loud or making excuses. Just saying I'd prefer to have more Purple in Frisco like vs YSU.

Definitely true there. I would say there are far more JMU than MSU fans that have already bought tickets. Then add the fact that NDSU fans will be selling their tickets which means more for us. Obviously MSU will grab some as well, but I do agree it will allow for more JMU fans if NDSU doesn't make it.

I am going with Montana for the upset. They are pretty stout and have a very good running game. I really wasn't that impressed with NDSU against ISU and ISU was screwed out of an upset on the backwards pass. NDSU got a gift.

Wow, it’s a shame they only show Star Wars at the theatre same day and time as our huge semifinal! Wouldn’t it be cool if they had multiple show times? Sigh

Edit - just realized may be talking about NDSU/MSU instead of our game. Hope that’s the case. I’ll be with family watching this game I think during a meal/gathering, then head to the stadium for our game, bringing a few of them along. Not quite as excited about watching it at a tailgate this Saturday, but props to those that are.

MSU is peaking at the right time. NDSU currently isn't the NDSU of the years past. I've only seen a few of their games this year but they don't seem to be much different from when they played SDSU back in late October. If NDSU plays the "play not to lose" game and MSU plays a clean game, no big mistakes, pound the ball, MSU could be heading to TX. No blow outs in this game 7 point swing hopefully to the Bi-Sun. More fun beating an entitled fan base like the Bi-Sun then a fan base that is respectable.

17-10, flip a coin

Yeah I’m only missing the NDSU game. The JMU game starts at 12:30am here so I’ll watch that while pounding beers. Last weekend I did the same and was a waste of space on Saturday.

The FargoDome is a huge home field advantage and ND State has been dominant running the ball this year. IMO, last week’s close game was an aberration and the Bison win easily.

We need to see JMU and ND State in the final. All signs have been pointing to it all year and the national championship game will be electric if that is how it turns out.

NDSU was uber conservative vs. ISU, don't see that happening again. I'd take NDSU to cover and win.

The only problem is that ISU was a big play away from that game getting away from them. The game was too close to be as conservative as they were. Had that lateral been called a fumble like it should have been they would have been losing.
In our case, we were up two scores. It made a bit more sense to be conservative being up two scores. When a TD would have put them behind, it seemed a little foolish.
That being said, I understand the reasoning. ISU had no passing game to speak of. If NDSU had even just one more FG to make it a 12-3 game I think the play calling would have made perfect sense. Seemed like a bit too careful too soon.
They won the game, so it was the right decision.
I think MSU is a MUCH better team than ISU. If it's a close game and NDSU plays that conservative they may be in some trouble tomorrow. I do expect them to look better, but wouldn't suprise me if MSU pulls off the upset.

I’m not fully convinced NDSU was being conservative. I think ISU just handled their run game, and that’s about 80% of what they do. The Bizon are used to being able to power run, stuff the run and win. They’ve never really “held back” like this in prior years that I can tell.

RE: The "other" semifinal game: Montana State at NDSU (2pm, ESPN-2)
I like the Cats by less than a touchdown over the smelly Bisons in a low-scoring game, like 13-9.

I read somewhere that last Saturday was the first time since 2002 that NDSU has not scored a touchdown in the Fargodump. This team is just not the same as the dominant NDSU teams of the past. Even though they are undefeated in a conference not nearly as strong as some people think, the past few games show vulnerabilities, a running game that can be stuffed. ISU held the smelly Bisons to 128 rushing yards, 3.0 ypc. How well would they do against us?

I hope we find out in Frisco, but I think NDSU is having offensive issues, are not firing on all cylinders, and MSU is the better team. Never underestimate the seven extra players in striped shirts the smelly Bisons have on the field though. Weird things happen to teams who face off against NDSU.

I am seeing a bit of displeasure with Matt Entz coming from the Bison board too. Some question whether he has what it takes.

Our teams played very similar games against very similar opponents last weekend. ISUr and UNI have great defenses and average-at-best offenses (I’m being kind). Both of our teams moved the ball with some success in the first half but had trouble finishing drives. Both then went ultra-conservative in the 2nd half knowing that the opponent wasn’t going to be able to sustain multiple drives to take a lead (it was way riskier for us after the FG cut it to 6. I wasn’t a fan, but it worked out).

Coincidentally MSU and WSU have very similar defenses (statistically speaking anyway).

Somehow for JMU it’s no concern because either last week was by design and no big deal, or it will light a fire under the offense and they’re going to take it out on Weber State this week. But for us last week means we’re terrible and we’re only going to score 9 points again? Uh huh
