What happened in 1994 that had a lot of folks on campus calling their auto insurance companies?

Looked like every car was attacked by a ball peen hammer. The overhead glass cover outside the bookstore looked like swiss cheese. Luckily my car and I weren't there that day. :D

The storm was in June or July.
