Football - Cure Bowl invite.

Basketball - Undefeated and ranked #31 in AP poll.

Just signed Hugh Freeze to a 5 year/10 mill contract.

That's impressive.

Money helps get facilities and coaches, and they have plenty of it. I expect their sports programs to surpass a majority of the non-AAC G5 in the next decade, if not sooner.

The stigma of their school is the only thing holding them back.

Online diploma mill with very low standards. I have no problem with attending a school online but Liberty is on par with the University of Phoenix.

The Flames had 2 FCS wins. Their FBS wins came against #123 rated New Mexico, #126 NMSU (x2) and #129 UMass. They did have a nice win over #71 Buffalo. Good for them for getting a Bowl invite, but a bit of a closer look tells more of the story.

Likewise, their basketball strength of schedule is currently 347th out of 353.

Couple of good lawyers in the Boro with Liberty degrees. It's less to do with academics and more to do with accountability. The leadership structure is a difficult nut to crack. An amazing opportunity if this kind of institution get's your motor running but aligning with public Us will likely continue to be difficult unless the doors are opened for more diverse leadership and transparency. Much respect for the accomplishments but change would have occur before they're welcomed into the Sun Belt as it is currently made up.

Their online and residential requirements are different. There are no minimum requirements to be a residential student listed on their website although they do give a typical GPA and test scores for their freshman students: 3.15-3.80 GPA, 1020-1200 SAT, and 20-27 ACT. That's actually pretty typical for a G5 school.

Their online school, however, only requires that you have a high school diploma or equivalent per their website.

That doesn't mean diploma mill.

People using the term diploma mill about Liberty obviously have a certain disagreement with how Liberty operates as an institution, whatever that be. But they're not a diploma mill.

Well that's an interesting username. Fun Fact: Back before 2010, I had a secret handle named Admiral Ackbar. It was fun for a week, until an admin unintentionally spilled the beans. Apparently, they can can associate your IP with your username.

RE: Liberty
Regardless of the “school”, or whether you’re capable of appreciating the difference between the residential vs online programs... their facilities are better than all but the top AAC schools, and beat most lower level P5 programs. Those facilities will only improve, with no delay.

Their scheduling, going forward, is drastically better than any G5, due to lack of need of $ games. They have the right people to drive it, and will get to levels quicker than any public school could dream of.

Not saying this as a LU proponent, just objective realist. And nothing, not even some stigma of the school, is holding any of that back.

Quote:By 2016, Liberty’s net assets had crossed the $1.6 billion mark, up more than tenfold from a decade earlier. Thanks to its low spending on instruction, its net income was an astonishing $215 million on nearly $1 billion in revenue, according to its tax filing — making it one of the most lucrative nonprofits in the country, based simply on the difference between its operating revenue and expenses, in a league with some of the largest nonprofit hospital systems.

Quote:in her years of teaching and taking courses, she said, she had never seen anything as flimsy as what L.U.O. passed off in its supposedly graduate-level courses. She had little interaction with the instructor, and the questions for the midterm and final exams were so arbitrary that it seemed to Hart as if they had been randomly generated by a computer program. She spent the open-book exams wildly flipping back and forth through the textbook and course materials trying to find the relevant passages. It was, she wrote to L.U.O. officials later, like “looking for Waldo.”
