RE: Scouting Weber State
I'd argue that the Big Sky had some of the higher scoring offenses in the country so it's tough to compare them to UNI. I'm not going to look up the stats but from my recollection at least, I would guess that the Big Sky top 4 or 5 teams averaged more total offense than the MVFC.

Either way, I think we know we are playing a team that has a stout defense (not that anyone has said anything to contradict that). As others have said, I still like the match-up as our defense isn't so crummy once we get past the first drive of the game.

I would also say MVFC offenses are WILDLY overrated.

To be clear, what I am trying to get across is that although statistically Weber may not quite have the defensive stats that UNI had, I think they did it against better offenses. I think we all agree we are playing a stout defense, I just think there may be some (fair) disagreement on whether their defense is as good as UNI's or not. Personally, I think they will give us an equal, if not better, match. I just hope our play-calling is such that we can take a little bit better advantage of our possessions.

RE: Scouting Weber State
Weber State looks a little younger than the last time JMU played them. There is only one 26 year old grown man on the roster and he doesn’t play much. They have a few 25 year old men and then many 24 year old juniors.

The prevalence of 2 year LDS missions give them some age just like the other Utah teams, but next year appears to be when they will be really old, at least in terms of how they define their roster.

Men vs boys. The Dukes don’t stand a chance 05-stirthepot

Hopefully their faith is shook from the insane revelation that the LDS has 100 billion dollars stored away and isn't using it for the good of the world like they said they were

Maybe it's better for the world if they don't spend it.

I watched the Weber/MTSU game last night, and I gotta say, neither team looked good at all.

That was one ugly game! It reminded me of our Colgate game last year. To me, Montana looked like the vastly better team, but they had about 6 turnovers and should have had more. Not too sure what we can glean from the game. Crappy conditions makes it difficult to gauge speed. Montana appeared to have much better team speed. Weber does have really good Defensive backs that seem to have a nose for the ball.

My gut instinct tells me we are 20 point favorites over Weber. Their QB is nowhere near as good as the one we played two years ago.

I'm gonna watch that game again - I spent half the thinking "this is dreadful."

It was bad weather, but I think that turf should have kept them from slipping and sliding -- it didn't look like their traction was too bad.

As for the picks - at least the first two I saw, it was just a matter of missing the receiver by 15 feet and hitting a DB in the numbers. If Nooch does that, we deserve to go home.

I dunno, we'll see, but if this game's close, something's gone wrong.

RE: Scouting Weber State
watched some Weber tape the other night.

couple things to watch for that maybe hasn't already been said:

their kicker seems pretty good. Same one that played against us 2 years ago, but i saw him make a couple 45+ kicks relatively easy.

against Idaho, they ran a fake punt inside their own 30 successfully. Then later in the same game, ran a fake FG for a TD. they also ran a reverse/flea flicker for a long TD against North Dakota. trick plays are in their bag and they are not afraid to use them. Take nothing for granted.

i am ABSOLUTELY expecting a flea flicker in this game. i don't know that we've seen a single one this year (correct me if i'm wrong), but they have given us trouble in the past. we're an aggressive defense and as you mentioned, they love trick plays. you'd expect them to want to use our aggressive nature against us. could see a reverse, double reverse, any type of fake on special teams, surprise onside kick, Statue of Liberty play, fumblerooski....

but i am officially making the prediction that they will try a flea flicker at the very least. i expect a pat on the back from someone when i'm proven right.

Didn’t unh successfully execute a flea flicker or some type of trip play for a big gain against us to start the game?

Thanks for the warm re-welcome Dukes fans
I also am looking forward to our upcoming h&h series between our schools. I think it's Awesome that so many Duke fans will be making the trip out here. Ogden is a beautiful little town and the views from our Stadium are breath taking.....unless the sky is filled with smoke.

I'd love to come see the game at JMU in a few years, hooefully the funds allow me too. Maybe I can meet a few of you on your trip out or on my trip out there.

Good to have you back WeberCat! I plan on making the trip to Ogden, really looking forward to making a weekend out of it.

Regarding the trick plays, you have to think that our defensive line, assuming their traditionally excellent gap discipline, will be giving any flea flicker, reverse, double reverse fits. Those plays are all about timing and our line is very, very disruptive.

I was going to say the same thing. It was a flea flicker exactly but similar. If I remember correctly they threw it to the receiver on the sideline on a screen looking play and he tossed it back to the QB who was still in the pocket and he rolled left and hit a wide open WR down the sideline. We got fooled easily on that one.

RE: Scouting Weber State
If they run a trick play on the first series of the game it will likely go for a huge gain. The question becomes whether it results in a touchdown or whether we stop them short and hold them to a field goal.
