AAU school, decent TV market. Theoretically no other in states schools blocking their ascendance. However their admins haven't put the pedal to the medal as far as investment.

In a related note, Chris Gardner tweeted the following regarding ESPN+ production costs from the ECU AD.

'East Carolina athletics director Jon Gilbert said each broadcast will cost the athletic department around $6,500-$7,500 to hire announcers and a production crew. Multiplied by 45, that’s more than $300,000 annually spent on broadcasting games...'

Stephen Igoe from Hoist the Colours discussed this 12/10 with Gilbert on the radio.

So we're basically shelling out $300k but getting a $5 million bump every year. Also about a $1 million one time cost to upgrade the broadcast booth. I'll take it.

Exactly. I posted that primarily to respond to those claiming ours ESPN+ production costs would be “2 million a year”. This is the first widely reported fairly difinitive word from inside the conference on the amount of those costs. Frankly—that’s about where I thought they would be.

^Yeah, you predicted well. From the limited info I could find at the time I couldn’t see it going over $500k. To those suggesting bball adds, Aresco stressed the conference is looking for a fball brand.

Harsin called out the mwc a couple days ago to do more. Never have heard talk like that from him.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.idahopr...2.amp.html

“I’m hopeful that we can continue to keep growing and developing and this place continues to get better and we find ways to do that. I certainly want to see that happen.”

Harsin also said he’d like to see the school and the Mountain West Conference do a better job marketing the Broncos and the teams in the league moving forward. The AAC was more vocal in campaigning for its teams this season and both Memphis and Cincinnati were rated higher by the CFP committee for much of the year.

I never thought I'd see this, but over on the Byu board they are seriously discussing joining the AAC and what a western division will look like. Something is brewing. Epic Mind BlownEpic Applause

I'm betting Air Force - Football Only / VCU - Hoops

Unless Boise State jumps first. I think Air Force would definitely come.

Not due to hype. Due to a tougher schedule and better wins.

So, it's not $2M per year to produce ESPN+ games? Color me shocked! 04-jawdrop

Somebody should look up all the old posts and ban everybody who said that. 03-lmfao

Here's one example from the Realignment Board. A couple months after the AAC contract was announced, there was a clear pr upswing from mwc and proxies based around the $2M myth. This is the Las Vegas paper quoting a (non) expert and the Realignment board posters you'd expect falling all over themselves.

https://csnbbs.com/thread-878729.html

You can find a lot on the mwc board, but searching over there? I don't have my rubber gloves with me this evening.

BYU fans are warming up to the AAC idea, if:

1) There is a G5 autobid to the expanded PLAYOFF.

2) BYU isn't the only western school involved.

Most would want Boise State and either SDSU or Air Force involved. If there were CCG deregulation, you could go to 15 with all four...and also invite Gonzaga to make it an all-sports expansion. (and there might even be room for VCU in that scenario).

I doubt this negatively impacts the dollar amount due to Uconns abysmal football and recently mediocre basketball

Adding BYU moves the needle and probably puts the AAC in the power conference talk.

Adding Army or Air Force does not.
