UALR & The Sun Belt
At what point does UALR need to reconsider its Sun Belt membership for perhaps a Southland membership?
Their university budget cuts include $352k in athletic scholarships.
We can all say that's a mythical number since you are just adding desks in classrooms that you are going to have anyway (at least as it relates to tuition, not board) - but UALR is not a 'big dog' in any stretch of the imagination when it comes to budgets, their enrollment continues to go down as a university.

A good chunk of the cuts -- $352,000 -- goes toward athletic scholarships. That reflects actual scholarship expenditures, meaning current student-athletes won't lose scholarships.

Strictly speaking league could have already booted them under the guidelines league established years ago that everyone would sponsor a minimum of 15 league sports. Soon after the Trojans dropped tennis leaving them with 14 sports and no one ever bothered to call to expel them. They've since added wrestling which isn't a league sport so have 15 but only 14 league sports and so far no action to boot them.
They are safe apparently as long as they desire to stay.
Budget-wise they'd be better off in the Southland with the reduced travel but don't see it happening even though it would benefit SLC in Olympic sport travel playing Central Arkansas.

UCA, Arkansas Tech, Harding and UAFS are gaining students. UCA would fit in the SBC nicely better than Little Rock. Little Rock competes with AState and UCA for students when both schools have football when they do not. I think Southland wants football schools. Both Texas A&M-C.C. and New Orleans said they think about football, but have not pulled the trigger. There are some non-football schools in large populated areas that could be perfect to form a D1 Horizon League in the southern plains and gulf coast.
