I've been staying away from the main board for a while now.
It doesn't look like there are too many favorable matchups for the Big Ten. Lots of relatively tough opponents.

The CFP games will probably play out normally. But the rest of the Bowls are anyone's guess. You don't know what key players these days will opt out of playing for fear of injury before the NFL signing bonuses are paid. You don't know which coaches will treat the game like a vacation and which ones will earnestly prepare. And since many of these schools will not have had common opponents you simply don't have a clue as to who should really be favored. It's a far cry from what we got 20 years ago and these bowls are moving more and more toward simply being an early Spring Game for underclassmen.
So whether the SEC or Big 10 or Big 12 wins the majority of the bowls doesn't mean a damn thing.
The only true bragging rights will be claimed within the 4 teams in the CFP.

RE: Open Thread - Bowl Games - 2019/20
Yes, it's very unfortunate that bowl games have become so unimportant to the higher level players. I get it, their future is very important and the money they are about to make.
These games ARE still important to the players NOT moving on to the next level. I think we all overlook these players this time of the year. The guys that truly love this game and cherish the opportunity to play in one more with their teammates.
Very excited about the CFP this year, obviously because Ohio State, but I also think it's very intriguing this year. Ohio State struggling in the first half with Wisconsin. LSU and how much has their defense improved. Clemson and are they as good as they look or is their competition just really bad. I think Clemson looks great, but the experts and computers hate their sos. Oklahoma, do they have a magical run in them this year etc...
Should be a fun bowl season and praying everyone stays healthy and happy!

My biggest question is does Alabama care to play in the Citrus Bowl and does Penn State care about playing Memphis in the Cotton?

Alabama = no
Penn State = yes
If Alabama is playing high level football, I'll give Saban even more credit for that kind of coaching. He's the greatest to ever coach, in my eyes. This is a new and different animal at Alabama, it'll be interesting to watch this game.

I might add, very good questions! I wonder too and my first response is just a stab at it.

In reality Alabama should blow out Michigan. But if Alabama guys start bailing for the NFL, Michigan might actually keep it close.
Penn State on the other hand, nothing really to play for and going against a brand that doesn't have a lot of weight in football. I can't see them being fired up for the cotton bowl. Its kinda a lose/ lose game for them. They don't gain anything with a win and if they lose it hurts the conference.

Off topic...
Shout out to Ohio State/Wisconsin for a really nice showing and tv numbers looked really solid. Competing with ACC for some viewers, but didn't impact much.
"It just means moreR", lol.

Kamal Martin (LB), Minnesota
Sitting out the Outback bowl vs. Auburn to prepare for the NFL.
Others I've noticed...
Andrew Thomas (OT), Georgia
Cam Akers (RB), Florida State
Brandon Wimbush (QB), UCF
CJ Henderson (CB), Florida
There are a few others, I just felt these were the most intriguing.

Really happy for Chris Petersen.
I typically cheer for the little guys in bowl games but I am happy Chris Peterson won the game and it happened against his former team that he helped build into the premier G5 program.

Best of luck to all the teams and enjoy your games. I'll be traveling from Athens to Toledo today...yuck! Catching a St. John's Jesuit basketball game in Toledo tonight so I'll be missing a lot of good football today.

RE: Open Thread - Bowl Games - 2019/20
Great start to the bowl season for the Big Ten! Good job Michigan State and especially Iowa! However, today will really determine the direction of the conference's fortunes this year with two NY6 games including a playoff game. Ohio State needs to beat defending champion Clemson and Penn State needs to beat a "lowly" G5 Memphis. Win these two and we essentially have a pretty good bowl season.
