If I was wrong 3 of your boys would be finalist num nuts

LOL

Who said that? Why it was you.

Then you tried to crawfish when proven wrong.

Post factual information next time and you'll avoid the embarrassment.

Geaux Coach O!

Congratulations to Coach O.

The problem with the award is that it usually goes to the coach whose team has the most improvement from year to year, not the 'best coach'. For example, Brian Kelly has won the award 3 times, once at Cincy, twice at Notre Dame. Nick Saban has won it one time, as has Dabo.

I like Kelly, but he doesn't have 1/10 the achievements a Saban has, so there's something wrong with the way the award is given.

Well, by the numbers, those guys didn't deserve it. And one reason is attempts. E.g., I just glanced at Etienne and Ohio State's Dobbins, Dobbins carried the ball like 70 more times, thus allowing him to gain a lot more yards.

But, that's because Ohio State played good teams and couldn't afford to rest him. OTOH, Clemson's soft ACC schedule allows Dabo to rotate even his stars like Etienne in and out and be fresher for the playoffs.

So .. you miss out on an award nobody will remember, but the payoff is that Etienne is fresh and ready for the Fiesta Bowl -and whoever his backup is has gotten valuable playing time too- whereas Dobbins has much more wear and tear on him.

Absolutely love the circular logic.

Etienne isn't good enough because Clemson "didn't play anybody"

When Etienne runs all over Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl it's because Clemson 'didn't play anybody"

Hilarious!

The logic isn't circular at all. I didn't say Etiene wasn't 'good enough' in any grand sense, I said he didn't deserve to be nominated for the award - what we were talking about - because his numbers don't stack up to the three guys who were nominated, with Dobbins as an example.

I also explained why that was the case - soft ACC schedule allows Dabo to rotate players more, keeping starters fresher and giving backups more seasoning. The downside being that a guy like Etienne doesn't get quite enough work to match the numbers of a few other guys.

Your bias makes you ... weird.

07-coffee3

Give Travis the 100 additional carries that Dobbins gets and based upon his average per carry, which has been consistent for his entire career, of around 7.8 yards per carry, and he's a top five in single season rushing yards.

But thanks for swallowing the bait whole. Unlike Day Dabo was smart enough to put in the reserves early and often to keep the team fresh throughout the season. It's been a hallmark of his coaching career: You come to Clemson and put in the work and you are going to play. It builds depth....

My God you don't make any sense. I correctly explained to you why Travis isn't one of the 3 finalists - he doesn't have the gross yards that the others do, and the reason for that is because he doesn't have the carries. So there's no sense in whining about it, the explanation for why he's not nominated is obvious and you were wrong to say he should have been.

As for why he doesn't have the carries, it is exactly as I explained as well: Dabo rests and rotates starters moreso than the other coaches, and one reason for that is because the ACC is soft (which it is) and hence his players don't have to play and get banged up like the starters at teams that play in tough conferences do.

It is in fact a major advantage for Clemson come playoff time that, thanks to the softness of the ACC, they aren't as banged up and worn out as the other teams are, and have had more chances to give underclassmen playing time, which both makes them better able to contribute late in the year, and saves wear and tear on the starters. And no, what Ohio State did vs FAU (!!!) is irrelevant, because there's no wear and tear factor playing an overmatched team like FAU. Everyone experiments against the OOC cupcakes on the schedule.

So it's not just how many minutes starters play, but what happens when they are playing. Minutes played against a big, strong, athletic team like an Alabama or a Clemson? An LSU or Wisconsin? A Penn State or Auburn? You are going to get beat up and banged up and worn out much more than playing a weaker team, even if you win. Like it took Muhammad Ali three months to physically recover from his 3rd fight with Joe Frazier, even though he won.

Clemson doesn't get beat up and worn out that way because they don't play those kinds of teams.

There's just no denying it, the softness of the ACC allows Dabo the luxury to prep and strategize for the playoffs much more effectively, and it wouldn't be possible if Clemson was playing the teams that LSU and Ohio State had to play, heck even Oklahoma had to play.

Why do you think Ohio State looks mortal right now, and not like the unstoppable machine they appeared to be in October? Because they played Wisconsin then Penn State then Michigan ... and then Wisconsin again. Big blows to the body one right after the other, wearing them down.

Meanwhile, Clemson was playing who? Duke? Wake Forest? Virginia? That's a tough lineup during basketball season but ...

That's a reason why Clemson looks like gangbusters in the playoffs and other teams don't look as good - they are worn down while Clemson is peaking.

If that's "bias" to you, it's because the facts are biased against you.
