At the beginning of the season I would have agreed. I called an NDSU/JMU matchup quite a while back. But watching them last week, the silent shock of their fans in the dome as Nichols hung with them was interesting.

If MSU comes in rushing hard and punches it up the gut on them, I think they’ve got at least 50-50 odds. Would not have said that before last week. I thought they would cakewalk in, and still do believe ISU will be an easy win. MSU has a real shot.

This week MSU vs AP will be interesting measuring stick. On paper/stats, MSU v AP and Weber v Montana could be close games. I’m sort of expecting MSU and Montana to dominate though, unless it really is the Big Fluffy still.

No offense but people have been saying that for 5 years. "It's not the same NDSU". It is the same NDSU.

They are undefeated and have been the highest ranked (by unbiased computers) FCS school all year. They have the best home field advantage and will have most fans at the NC game if they make it.

NDSU & JMU are a step above the other FCS schools this year, and really for the 3rd time out of the last 4 years. NDSU has won 6 of the last 7 NCs and has not lost a step this year playing a more difficult FCS schedule than JMU. The "Smelly Bisons" are pretty amazing. I love excellence and their current run is just that - excellence.

If we win the NC this year, I would say we've gone toe to toe with them the last 4 years. Everyone has chinks in their armor including NDSU almost every year, but 6 out of 7 NCs, and undefeated this year.

As far as them having a new coach - we have a new coach, and Houston was a new coach. But they are still winning and still ranked and rated #1 by polls and computers.

1 - they’ve been playing weak opposition. Sorry, but the MVC is not that great this year. All the “computers” indicate the Big Sky is stronger. Some also show the CAA was stronger than MVC this year. OOC w/l record for the conferences indicates this also.

2 - they are absolutely NOT rated #1 by all the computer systems. Perhaps by Sagarin, which I understand you love, and I despise. ESPN SP+ and Versus both have them as #2 right now.

I can’t remember which hotel it was in 2016 but I stayed wherever STATS was doing their award presentation and I met Jerry Rice in the elevator. I shook his hand and said “holy **** you’re Jerry rice”. None of my friends believed me because I didn’t grab a selfie. That being said, I’m going to try to stay at whatever hotel hosts that event again, missed getting that hotel in 2017.

FWIW in 2016 YSU was at the Hilton Plano/Frisco. Saw Bo Pelinni at the bar. Rode the elevator with Jim Tressel & his wife.

I saw Doug Williams in the lobby of the Embassy Suite. After explaining to my kids what he had accomplished as a Redskin went over to ask if he would mind taking a picture with my kids. He laughed and said "no" and looked the other direction. And he was there as the FCS ambassador for the game...... Really disappointing. Then of course he becomes part of the front office for the Redskins. His reaction still puzzles me to this day.
