I don’t know what’s the fascination with Kiffin? The NFL, Tennessee, USC, FAU and now Mississippi.

It’s not like FAU was knocking a NY6 bowl while he was there. I think he even failed to live up to the expectations in his G5 gig given the location. Good luck facing Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texas A&M and even Arkansas (depending on who they hire) every year.

Kiffin must have dirt on people in high places. Like Muschamp.

As someone who doesn't follow FAU or the C-USA at all, it looks like he's done a solid job in Boca from afar. Turned around a middling program and very quickly, I can see why that'd be attractive to a power team. But as his stints in Oakland, Knoxville, and LA have showed, he's not big time material imo; if he plays with the big dogs again he'll get burned. If he goes P5 it should be at a lesser program with low expectations that'd be thrilled with 6-7 wins a year and doesn't expect championships.

LK has done well at FAU, 11-3, 5-7, 9-3 in the CUSA CCG. And he has coached recruited in the SEC.

I don't disagree, though. I think people at these schools get angry when they don't see points being scored. Lane's an offensive-minded person, so, you assume he guarantees higher-scoring teams?

In Ole Miss' case, I think it's people thinking Lane can outgun Saban.

If coaches don't move on from LSU, Auburn, and Bama, it will get ugly at Ole Miss. VERY ugly.

On a side note, PSU inked Franklin to a bigger contract. He's out of the rumor mill for this round.

I’m sorry, but I think these are both absolutely ridiculous hires. Florida State can’t do better than Mike Norvell? What? Also, Ole Miss can’t do better than Lane Kiffin? What?

I have never met Kiffin but I have met Norvell, and that a counter would go down as one of the 10 weirdest/most awkward encounters of my life. He’s a really bright guy and he’s had success at Memphis, but Jesus Christ, you are Florida State!

Ole Miss must be ready to do whatever it takes to win if they are willing to hire Kiffin. We’ll see if he has actually grown down on Boca.

Dude should stay at Memphis. I suspect Franklin got an offer first that triggered the contract extension. Leaving a place where you can have a decent ceiling to be an afterthought hire at a dumpster fire.

If Memphis loses tonight, and Norvell is the hire, he’s already a dead man walking.

I don't like the guy, and Ole Miss is not going to pass Alabama and LSU. But we can't knock his FAU record. He was 26-13 in 3 seasons at a school that won a total of 28 games in the 9 seasons before he got there.

Any news on Boston College or New Mexico?

Sounds like Ohio State might be losing some of its assistants. Jeff Hafley comes up a lot for BC and Tony Alford for Colorado State. Jim McElwain was coming up for some jobs.

I cannot think of a coaching career trajectory that has gone the way Lane Kiffin's has. Not yet 45, he has already been the head coach with the Oakland Raiders, Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, FAU Owls and, now, Ole Miss Runnin' Rebels. He has been a top coordinator for USC and for Alabama. He has been a part of three separate national championship teams (USC 2003, USC 2004 and Alabama 2015). He has been unable to stay in any spot longer than five years.

The difference with Lane Kiffin today, over years ago, is that Kiffin now has carried some humility in building-up and establishing a G5 program (FAU) as well as learning and being mentored by one of the greatest head coaches of all-time (Saban). Kiffin rose too fast too quickly when he took the Raiders job in 2007, and compounded his inexperience when he moved to Tennessee in 2009. I actually thought he would be at USC for a long time in 2010, as he was a bridge to the Pete Carroll years, along with pro and SEC experience, but it was quickly revealed that he was in-over-his-head.

I do not think Kiffin is at Ole Miss in 2025, but I do think he is much better positioned to succeed as a head today than a few years ago. Will be very interesting to see how it goes. The hire is already boosting fan interest, which is a must in this situation for Ole Miss.

Miss St fans were praying Moorhead would end up at Rutgers. Kiffin replacing Luke moves Ole Miss back ahead of MSU.
