We need to find someone who can consistently score outside of the two bigs. Loewe seems like he may be that player. Blair, Ayesa, Hermanovskis, Williams aren't the answer. Scott?

Why so masochistic? No one is acting like we beat Duke. Winning on the road is NEVER a time to dampen the accomplishment. It's a big deal for this team.

Winning in these MAAC gyms is never easy. Our past record would show that.

Not sure what you are reading into my post. I was just saying that it was hard to see how they beat A&M, that we beat them on the road with no fan support, and that we need to find a consistent third offensive player. Those are all just statements of opinion/fact. Nothing negative about the team/players.

I didn't take anything negative about the players from your post.

I just thought - after a very nice win - your first response of "Fairfield is not a good team" seemed very odd. I just found that a negative way to respond to another road win.
Thanks for that. I see how you interpreted it. What I wrote doesn't really explain what I was thinking. Mentally, I was thinking: "Fairfield is lousy, and this is a game we shouldn't lose", but we let it get too close. That was not our best offensive game and we need that third scorer. I'm happy we won, especially in an arena that small with all Fairfield fans.

Still early, but if the season ended today, he is the conference player of the year. No discussion. Don't even bring up Riller. Nate is leading the nation in double doubles.

Yep. In fact, according to this CAA article, Riller just got his FIRST CAREER double double the other day against a Division II team. Makes you wonder how Riller is even seriously in the conversation ......

RE: Fairfield Game Sunday
One can't help but be pleased (excited?) with the team's progress so far.

There is valid concern about the offensive production outside of Knight/Van Vliet. Loewe has been a solid performer but it would help to have Scott back at the high level of performance with which he started the season. I suspect Ayesa will come along in a designated shooter role.

My biggest concern at this point is rebounding. Knight is doing a yeoman's job but in the past he was never our primary rebounder so sometimes he forgets to focus on it. Van Vliet gets rebounds because of his height but he can be, and has been, outworked under the boards. The rebounding weakness is especially glaring when Knight is out. Van Vliet gets overpowered at the 5 spot and Blair seems a bit undersized at this point. Generally everyone else on the court in these situations is a guard and of little help.

I'm afraid this will be a major issue for us against the more physical CAA teams. Despite our increased focus on defense, we don't really get a stop until we have defended the shot AND gotten the rebounc.

Maybe we should turn more to Harvey than Blair at the 4/5 when Nate or Van Vliet are out. Harvey's defense, shot blocking and rebounding might outweigh Blair's overall offense and 3-point shooting.

Scott scored in double digits in 3 of the 4 games he played in. I'd say that is an uptick from the scoring we get from Hamilton in the starting lineup. No guarentee that he continues that pace, but he was more than a 1 game wonder. I think in his month away you are forgetting how clutch he was at times (as long as you block out the Wofford game ).

Dane has previously stated that Thornton is the most vocal leader on the team. That impacts on both ends.

He suffered his injury during the Wofford game, so that certainly didn't help.

All this is very interesting and we may get some comments from Coach Fischer at his Anna's luncheon today,
but the bottom line is that we are 7-3 despite playing seven of the ten games on the road. Nobody expected
this record at this juncture of the season.

Tribe travels video from the Fairfield trip

Good sign that there is a Thornton Scott sighting sans the walking boot. Makes me think he is close.

I wonder why Jihar was sitting on the bench wearing a coat and tie. I do not think that he would have made the trip if it were an academic thing, and he was the one who shot the video. He must be a little dinged up also.

It's a shame you can fly from Wmbg/ Jamestown Airport to Philly, Charlotte and Atlanta but not to NYC or Boston. It would be much easier than busing the team to the Richmond airport.

Also, I wonder why we saw Dronjak. I thought someone on this board told us last year that walk-ons don't travel. (Maybe it was that players who are sitting out a year waiting for eligibility can't travel, since that conversation might have been about whether Van Vliet had gone to Charleston). Someone who knows the actual rules can weigh in on that.

There's no rule against walk ons traveling, they're allowed to play in road games. I think there is a travel roster cap of 15, so if there's more players than that some can't travel.

Bussing to Richmond is a helluva lot better than bussing all the way to NY/CT and parts beyond as in past seasons.

1:33 mark (should load there) in the posted highlights. These plays are back to back here.
