For what it's worth, preseason top 25. CAA comes in with #2 JMU, #8 Villanova, #17 Albany, & #20 New Hampshire

Towson, Delaware, Richmond, & Elon received some votes.

William & Mary noticeably absent

RE: FCS Stats Football Top 25
Am I expecting too much, too soon?
Are the pollsters not impressed much by our new coaches and new recruits?
I was hoping we would quickly rise to at least the middle of the pack.
I'm excited about the new OC.
For those of you who are more knowledgeable, when might we see some
improved results on the field?

It will probably be a 2-3 years before any recruits are making impact, yea? Not many true fresh or redshirt fresh making a difference for most college football teams.

You saw improved results last year and I expect the trajectory to be up. It was a preseason poll. Based almost exclusively on last year. I can promise you the people voting in that poll didn't even look at what we have returning and what's coming in new.

Tribe 4SF is correct. Thus team was much improved last season and is on the way up. Mathis may be one of our great quarterbacks and there are a host of good runners and offensive linemen. Defense will take some work and we need to fink a good placekicker/punter. London has an outstanding freshman class
that arrived last week. And, remember, these frosh will not play this fall and will have their first season as sophs next year.

While that's true for most recruits, training and strength development have evolved and kids arrive more ready to compete these days. Last year's class had real difference makers in Bronson Yoder, Kane Everson, Hollis Mathis, Donavyn Lester and Latrelle Smith. Nate Lynn was a contributor in all 12 games and Sam Katz started at long snapper. Add in George Eberle and that's 8 true freshmen who were were on the field immediately. I expect several of the guys coming in this year will also make an impact as will some of those who redshirted last year.

Too bad there isn’t a fall season, because when we would’ve beat Stanford, we would’ve been in the top 25 then! 05-stirthepot

This seems very irrelevant based on COVID 19. Let us see IF we have spring 2021 football and what the roster will be at that time. Kind of hard to expect a lot until fall 2021 at this point.

First play from scrimmage goes for a 75 yard rushing TD. I believe the RB is a true freshman...not a bad college football debut.

RB for Central Arkansas transferred from Ohio State.

Auston Peay 7
C. Arkansas 0

Ohio State transfer, by way of Juco, is Austin Peay RB. Booted from program due to sexual assault.

RE: FCS Football
Saw where Campbell had lined up four regional FBS games this fall and accompanying paydays, all in a five week period, then will play spring season, if the Big South has conference play. Sounds like they jumped on the opportunity out there.

Sounds great, but at what cost? I guess time will tell.

Time will tell, but certainly effective in close, bus ride trips, in a shortened time frame, and over with Oct. 9th, before flu season and with healthy downtime period before any spring season.

It seems to me, the squads taking the field tonight--from an attending fans' perspective--have done it right. Family/friends clusters and groups sit 4 chairs apart. Mandatory masks.

Play UVA for $400k and there would be enough $ to test every player & staff then put them in a bubble. I see no reason why we couldn't have done that but I still agree with punting the season to the spring.

Apparently the D1 recommendations for the spring FCS playoffs consist of the 10 conference winning automatic qualifiers, plus 6 at-large teams (usually 14). All set to target May 15th as the date of the championship game.

I found it amusing that they think reducing the number of playoff teams to 16 is a bad move. If football is played in the spring, it will probably consist just of league games. How much sense would it make to include teams with 4-4 records, because they were the fourth best team in a league, but one of the top 24 teams?

I like football, but i would be shocked if a spring season of more than just a few games actually happens.
