RE: Five Keys to Beating Appalachian State - From the Bird's Nest
what I fear most is Napier will go to running between the tackles, our weakness is the lack of size on the dL, if they can establish a consistent 4-5 ypr between the tackles, it will force us to bring up the lbs which in turn will open up the play action pass behind the linebackers.

953 of those 1341 passing yards came in 3 games, 2 of which are the conference's #9 & #10 pass defenses.

Five Keys to Beating Appalachian State - From the Bird's Nest

If we would have done that in the first meeting the Cajuns would be hosting.
Bold statement when your team lost by double digits. All it would have done is make you lose a higher scoring game.
You led by 3 up until the final TD drive that ended at 1:55 to go. You either did not watch the game, or you're a numbskull if you think that game was some sort of blowout. It could have very well gone in the Cajuns favor with some tweaks in the offensive play calling.
It's just as asinine to act like if your play calling was different ours would not have changed. Drinkwitz coached that game to do just enough to win. Football games take on their own life and it's not as easy as saying "if we ran it up the gut, we would have won." Because if it was a shootout, I go advantage App every time because running teams are not idea for a shootout. But ok, you can think you were in that game. You weren't in that game from your first possession when D. Taylor ragdolled your QB.
Got it, two App fans either didn't watch the game or are numbskulls. Saying the Cajuns weren't in that game takes away any of your credibility.

The vast majority know App will need to play one of if not its best game of the year to win tomorrow.
Cajuns arrived in Johnson City last night, I'm certain they are focused, I hope we are.

I'd be curious to know the stats on how often the team that wins the first game wins the second game. Cajuns seem to be improved, and are getting some guys back for this game. APP will be without their top receiver, but still has plenty to go around. Should be a really good game.

Just from following the FCS for a long time with plenty of rematch games, it's very hard to beat a team twice unless you can legitimately be a multiple-score favorite. The losing team definitely has a psychological edge especially if they feel they could've won the first game.
I'll say this, too. If you've got the distraction of a head coach interviewing and talking with other programs that's always going to bear down on a team. Always. I don't care how professional and classy a coaching staff is or how much they want to make sure to finish the job right or how much they love job, it will always create problems. No way around that at all. I would think that favors App, but who knows how serious a candidate Drink is.

Minimize big plays. App still thrives on big plays.
No short fields. That means no turnovers and no giving up big special teams plays.
Contain both Evans and Thomas on the ground. Thomas doesn't run quite as much this year but he makes good pickups when he has to, like on that last TD drive the first time they played Louisiana.
Did it in four keys.
Yea not doing so hot so far Louisiana.
Also take your ******* 25 yards on kickoffs. So frustrating seeing teams waste that since the rule was changed.
