That very well could be what he's waiting on.

One other thought I've had is this: what if Auburn was the place he wanted to coach, but he thought he had another year with this squad & isn't ready to move yet due to his family? It then becomes a question of what he values more. For most coaches, it would be the opportunity, no questions asked. But Freeze does seem to have changed his values after everything that happened at Ole Miss, & this would be the test to determine whether that's true or not.

I think his family would back the move. In the words of wise forum contributors... he gone.

I think if Freeze were the top choice and it was reciprocated (and I don't think he'd turn them down), then it would have already been announced. I also think that Auburn wouldn't have fired Malzahn without having someone lined up. Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier seem to be top targets and have games this weekend.

I think Freeze wants Tennessee.

Glad he passed on Auburn or Auburm passed on him. That brings another season of relief.

Well the Tennessee position just opened up. Pruitt is gone due to recruiting violations. They may not be quick to hire Freeze if they are looking to avoid someone else with similar concerns. I think Freeze wants it but no idea if they want him.

I think Freeze, Napier, and Chadwell are names that are tossed around.
Also, could be some interesting opportunities for transfers out of Tennessee.

Best case for us, I think they will stay away because of the circumstances.

Best case for us is that Coach Freeze shows his commitment to us and the university. And the university continues to show commitment to football and university growth. And the fanbase shows its commitment through increased attendance and increased financial support to the Flames Club. And LU remains steadfast to “Training Champions for Christ” and it biblical Christ centered mission. That’s the best case scenario.

Probably not going to be Freeze. Maybe later a few years from now but that is a SEC program and he might be looked at too fondly since his history with the SEC isn’t good. His redemption tour hasn’t been long enough either. Of course I could be completely wrong too.

Freeze is still toxic to most of the college football world..He may never get another P5 job offer, so y'all are probably safe..

I don't believe Coach Freeze has any interest in VT. When he moves it will be to the Deep South. That's likely a year or two away.

I agree. I think LSU would tickle his fancy but I don't think the SEC has much interest in hiring Freeze. He was blacklisted there. I don't think it is still in effect as a league policy anymore but I that doesn't mean each school is okay with it individually.

Florida may be a school to keep an eye on.

I'll just say that my expectations are high for that kind of salary. Pay P5 money and I'll expect a P5 level team. Conceptually that is good, just need to execute on the field.

He'll never be able to recruit at a P5 level in c-usa but he can establish liberty as one of the top G5s in the country. With the playoff eventually expanding this is all he needs to do.

I have no faith that C-USA will have a good enough resume to have its champion get the G5 playoff slot. There is just too many anchors that hold down the top teams but we'll see.

The sunbelt added 3 more anchors to a conference that already had several of them. The aac lost 3 very strong programs and added a lot of dead weight as replacements. The MAC has the occasional strong team but is usually a mediocre conference. MWC is probably the strongest G5 football conference now but their champion almost always has 2 or more losses which all but disqualify them. I'm not saying it will be easy but there 100% is a path if we just win our games.

The committee rewards big wins. We won't have any conference games that will boost our resume. We will need each of our non-conference games to be big wins to be comparable to the traditional G5 NY6 bowl representative. I just don't see us comparing favorably to another G5 conference with a 12-1 champion. We won't even have a conference championship game to get another win against a winning team.

Sure other conferences added some anchors but they have traditionally good programs that can get big non-conference wins and boost the conference. C-USA added three schools that were FCS within the past five years and a perennial doormat New Mexico State.

No "big time" conference opponents?

No conference championship game?

UTEP & some basketball-first New Mexico school dragging down your SoS?

Nobody will ever win the MNC with that sort of resume. 01-france

Haters like to write off 1984 as some crazy fluke where BYU won by default. But Lavell's early 80s teams were consistently playing at a high level & producing NFL talent. He was able to sustain that until, yeah, we admittedly got a few breaks.

But that's how it works for anyone not already perceived as a blueblood. You have to log in a couple strong seasons & then run the table. Cinci would not be in the current playoff discussion if they weren't fresh off multiple double digit win seasons. Even Dabo had to rebuild Clemson's brand before they became a regular playoff challenger.

It can be done. Good luck to you guys.
