South's AD speaks out concerning Coach Campbell
Dr. Joel Erdmann, USA AD, in a Q&A interview with Press Register beat reporter for South Alabama athletics, Creg Stephenson, explains why there will be no change of head coach at this time. Including other items.

Because he's building a roster from scrap and you beat Arkansas State. Both good reasons.

USA is 4-24 in last 28 FBS games, two of those four are over Blake Anderson's Red Wolves.

They certainly seem to have regressed. With a new stadium being built, it would be better to maintain the recruits currently committed and make a move next season once the new facilities are done than to move on now where the new coach has nothing to show during the contact period.

RE: South's AD speaks out concerning Coach Campbell
I felt like this season was about as bad as it could have been, 2-10 is not what we expected. However, we were competitive, in some of those loses and as bad as we may have even played offensively we were still in a position to win a couple games.
If there was an incredible guy out there that we could get, maybe, but I’ve come to grips we are giving him at least a 3rd season and hopefully Campbell gets this team playing the way we expected his teams to play. Nothing I’d like more then to have him for another 3-4 years and we lose him in the way App and Louisiana are probably losing their coaches.

Campbell is a good coach. Firing him after two seasons would be a horrible mistake.

I’ve grown to agree with that. As frustrating as this season and last have been, his background warrants giving him time to fix it. He’s never had problems elsewhere, odds are pretty high he’ll get it turned around. Hopefully sooner than later.
We also had quite a few players from the last regime that just didn’t buy in. It was clear during the Ark State game that he was able to hold his team together though. It would have been easy for the team to go through the motions and finish this ugly season, but he kept them fighting. That’s a sign of a good coach.

They need a half-competent offense and they'll be bowl eligible.
The new stadium should help crooting as well.

RE: South's AD speaks out concerning Coach Campbell
There’s a few good nuggets in there. We can see from this article it is a Sun Belt request for our teams to schedule one P5 game, one FCS home game, one G5 home game, and one G5 away game each year. For those teams that have scheduled two P5 money games, have your future schedules started to shift away from that and into what the league wants us to schedule? I guess I could look it up...

Supposedly this request has been out there for a while, and no ULM is not moving towards that. 2023 already has 2 money games scheduled.

Yes, thankfully this was the last year with 2 P5s on the schedule for GS. Another plus is that, aside from Wisconsin, we're scheduling P5s that aren't playoff contenders.

We've been doing that for several years now. The bad thing is that since we moved down to 1 "money game", we have to schedule that with someone who will pay top dollar (upwards of $1.7-$1.8 million) to make up for only having one. The ones that can pay that are top 20 in the nations teams, where we basically have no chance to win. Upcoming games against Michigan, Washington, Ohio St, and recent games against Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, USC, and Nebraska. Nebraska was the only team that wasn't good, and we had our chance to take them to OT. We really should have won. They lost to Northern Illnois the following week. But that's just another example of Blake ball. Sometimes I'd wish we'd schedule more winnable games like App had this year against UNC and South Carolina.

I understand the need for the money games to help meet budgets, but that means they pay their millions and never come to your house. You want to sell season tickets, get those P5’s to come to your house.

The ones who will come to a G5 stadium aren’t the same ones that will offer payday games to G5 teams. And those millions are nothing to sneeze at.

UL has not done the two P5 money game deal in recent memory, anything further back than 08/09ish you'll have to ask an older Cajun fan than me, and there is nothing of the sort on our future schedule.

UNC and South Carolina weren't true money games. They were the first games in a pair of 2-for-1 series.
But yes, stAte does schedule the hardest games among the P5 year in, year out.

I feel like Southern has the magic bean when it comes to scheduling P5 games. Oh, you've been struggling? Schedule GS, you'll have your best season in 50 years!
