It’s funny that Ga Southerns biggest accomplishment in FBS now is beating App. Starting to get Western Carolina syndrome down in the Stink.

Like others said, 8-0 conference champion in our first year was a pretty big accomplishment, as was our 10-loss to 10-win turnaround.

But in terms of a single game, I must have overlooked y'all beating a top 20 team. Surely it's on your schedule somewhere, right?

So what's your biggest FBS single game win? Beating a 6-6 UNC? Or is it the 4-8 USC?

We measure our success in seasons, not singular wins. You should try it. Tune into ESPN this Saturday to watch us play. I know Georgia Southern won’t be doing anything.

We can go by seasons as well. Like that time we posted an 8-0 mark in conference play. Something we've kept y'all from accomplishing two years in a row.

Think about that while watching the Cotton Bowl from your couch.

Not sure you want to expand this discussion to much more than the games between the two schools the past 2 seasons. Think about that while we have a chance to add even more to the below resume this weekend.

Resumes since App/GS joined the league:

You act like Western Carolina beat anyone...ever

I mean they were usually a 7-5 team.

I'm curious why App fans hold Western Carolina in such a high regard. They have reached 7 wins 14 times in 90 years of football. Under .500 record all time. Is it just because of old "rivalry"?

We don’t.

I'd say the road win versus ULL is our best win of the season, of course the general public would never agree with that.

Yeh, I never think about WCU much less regard them as anything other than a bad FCS team that had one good year.

13 wins better than anyone else in just 6 years. With a chance this weekend to get to as many conference titles as the rest of the league combined. Yeah, it's not real close.

Almost 2 seasons worth of wins (app seasons) more than Ga Southern in 6 years.

And while Georgia Southern fans sit in their kitchen and smoke cigarettes this weekend, we got a chance to keep widening the gap.

If you had a team like 2017 UCF that beat the doors off a mid or lower-tier P5 and win over top 15 team I would say there's no way to justify putting App over them.

But Cinci beat at home by 10 an awful UCLA team that also lost by 11 to San Diego State, and Memphis playing at home squeaked by an Ole Miss team whose only wins are Arkansas, SELA, Vandy, and NMSU. Sorry, but beating USC and UNC on the road is more impressive than either of those.

I wonder if Georgia Southern had managed to stop Minnesota on 3rd or 4th and forever if the committee would view App's 3 point loss any more favorably. My guess is no. Would've been more impressive than the Memphis loss to Temple; Temple who beat...Georgia Tech and...gasp...Oregon State.

There isn't a huge gap in talent between the two programs, only consistency. If Georgia Southern manages to strike gold with a model of consistency, which I prefer, it would raise the profile of the entire conference.

A real shame that Troy hired Chip Lindsey as well. That's not to say anyone else would've had a different result, but their fall this season was almost as sad as watching Georgia Southern under Summers. If the cash cows of the conference could all put it together in the same season while one team finished with only one loss it would help everyones cause.

I feel the time where two Sun Belt teams being ranked is coming, so long as we can get some consistency from the people you expect it from. Troy broke the seal, App tipped the bottle, then smashed through the seal. I suspect a door has been opened going forward.

Not sure a school as close to Caldwell, Burke, and Alexander counties in NC should be talking about meth.

RE: Week 14 CFP Poll
All this back and forth between teams is ridiculous ... the truth is this, App state isn't yet ready for the Cotton bowl:
1)App is just 6 years old from a FBS perspective. Granted we have done it better than anyone else in that time spend as of recently, but we are still young in this party. Our dues need to continue to be paid, we are close, but not there yet.
2) Two P5 wins are very impressive, and show how far we have come in 6 years. But if you look at those teams on an individual bases, the wins aren't overly impressive, a bad South Carolina team and a mediocre UNC team. For App it's big cause it's our 1st two, but looking at it from a Memphis/UCF/Houston/Boise perspective, they aren't that impressive.
3) A true Cotton Bowl participant doesn't lose to inferior teams at home. They don't, doesn't matter who the opponent is. A NY6 bowl team is not only ranked high, win 10 or more games, but they don't lose to mediocre teams. App needs to continue to grow to be consistent enough to beat the teams we all know App is better than.

How much we want the NY6 bowl, we just don't deserve it this year. Still, at the end of the day, I'm very proud to be a fan of the program that has unprecedented accomplishments in it's 1st 6 years of FBS, being ranked in the CFP, consecutive bowl wins, consecutive conference championships, and gaining much deserved national attention. Loses always suck, especially to a rival. Just be thankful we pull for the program that has so much more to celebrate and brag about over the last several years than being a fan of a program who only has said win over rival to celebrate.

I'm not sure any G5 program "deserves" the Cotton Bowl invite based upon that criteria. There is no G5 team I'd place in the top 15 of the FBS.

They lost to Temple, who lost by 42 to UCF and 24 to SMU.

At least Georgia Southern was in a position to win against Minnesota. They faltered following the App game and at LSU but the win, on paper, isn't as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be.
