RE: Vermont game thread
Not often you give up 15 3's, get completely outhustled for a half, and win comfortably by 9. Very nice win. It was good to see that performance after the last four games.

Brannen is going to have plenty of teaching moments with that second half film. Vermont got nearly every loose ball and ended up with 10 offensive rebounds in the half. The rebounding effort was very poor after halftime! Multiple times a single Vermont player came up with the ball surrounded by 3 or 4 of our guys and kicked out for an open 3. Teams shouldn't be making a comeback based on our lack of effort.

It fell apart when the refs went on a 7min rampage of calling touch fouls on us and nothing on them.

There was 8 fouls Vermont had on Vogt they didn't call. He got hacked all game long.

Yeah they let Lamb do pretty much whatever he wanted on defense. Played all 40 minutes (many of them guarding Vogt giving up 5-6 inches) and got called for one foul.

Agreed.

Yar. Pretty solid performance from everyone not named Diarra.

RE: Vermont game thread
UC had some lapses on the perimeter, but Vermont had not been shooting the ball well at all this year from behind the arc and made them tonight. Some of them were tough shots and a couple had some extremely fortunate bounces (one banked in from the corner and another hit the rim/backboard 5 times before dropping in, both during Vermont's run).

Offensively they looked really good especially considering Jarron basically didn't play the entire second half. Keith was fantastic as was Jaevin from 3. Mika Adams-Woods continues to look impressive and more comfortable. Tre Scott had a great all around game.

Still some areas need to get better and certainly more consistent, but it was pretty encouraging. That Vermont team is going to win a lot of games and had Virginia on the ropes with a couple minutes left.

Not sure what to expect on Saturday.

RE: Vermont game thread
I saw what I consider to be the worst no-call in the history of hoops.

12:06 of the 2nd half.
UC attempts shot
Shot is no good
Vermont grabs the rebound
All but Harvey and a Vermont player head down the floor
Vermont player punches Harvey
Harvey falls to the floor out of bounds
Ref is standing 5 feet away
No call

Should have been a flagrant 2 with ejection

Coach B saw it and didn’t say a word to any of the refs.

Vogt got a couple of elbows in the face also.

So i have to ask, were the officials from Vermont's conference as i did not recognize any of those clowns. Worst officiating i've seen in quite some time.

The baseline ref seemed to be kind of looking that way and then looked at Harvey on the ground before heading down the floor. Ridiculous no call. I think Brannen got sick of talking to them realizing all it was going to do was get him a T eventually as they were deaf to him.

RE: Vermont game thread
Very nice game tonight.

Keith Williams and Tre Scott were both fantastic. Jaevin played well too, and the team did a great job getting him looks. And Vogt was good again.

The defense was good for a lot of the game. Gave up some 3s, but they played with a lot more energy.

Brannen has no pull with the refs and doesn't seem even to try. I like that he's not a complete maniac, but he's got to start working them a little.

The sole discouraging spot was Jarron. He had another pretty off night and then got hurt on a dumb play. Hope he gets right at Cintas.

UVM (my alma mater) did not play great and was completely outmanned athletically by UC, but they scrapped and hit a bunch of shots to make it closer than it was.

Fun game, good win.

He seemed like a good guy. He was giving kids candy during time outs. And the UC officials who gave him water/towels seemed to really like him.

Yes he gave a little girl mints. He also blew/missed 10-15 calls and sucks at his job. Only thing he needs to freshen up are his eyes and skills. Trust this man with your secrets bc he isn’t blowing the whistle. Foul performance for Mark McGwire.

RE: Vermont game thread
A minute into the game, the Vermont coach was whining to one of the refs who had hair. The ref walked away and made a waving gesture dismissing him. I had never seen a ref do that. And obviously the Vermont coach did not either. He yelled out "don't you ever effing wave me off again. Don't ever effin wave me off again." I was then surprised the ref didn't T him up. Yet, Vermont had a lot of first half fouls, but not many in the second half. Not sure how that intimidation played out like it did.

Cats looked great

Hopefully they see that making the extra pass to the wide open player pays off

Officials were dreadful. The ref with the shaved head had to have Vermont +6. Only explanation

Lamb got the Jordan treatment all night

Hopefully Jarron isn’t out long

Interesting article about Chris Beaver (one of the refs). Might be why Brannen did not do too much yelling at the refs tonight, because he knew about them.

How long do we have until Paul Daughtery writes a column about how "the Shootout doesn't have the same energy this year"?
