After a lackluster, being generous, performance against UMBC our guys tipoff against a struggling Princeton team. They did beat Bucknell who really beat up on Hofstra. Despite the record, this one wont be easy. I expect us to be favored by a few points but we will need to play much better than we did against UMBC if we want to win.

Jaelin Llewellyn is their top scorer at just under 16 points a game on 40% shooting, but Butler will have his hands full with their center, Richmond Aririguzah who is scoring 14.5 points and grabs 9.2 rebounds per game on 60% shooting. They are playing a lot of guys. 9 guys are averaging over 10 minutes per game that have played in 5 or 6 of their games. Three players shoot 3's for them and none of them at a high clip (27%, 33%, 29%). This is going to be a game where our defense really gets challenged and whether or not we can stay in front of our man or whether we will let them walk in the lane for layups. A lot of zone may be smart in this one, without much 3 point threats from the Tigers.

We responded well to the awful game in Texas with a big win over Bryant. I think we do similarly here and get the victory, pulling away late.

I totally believe it, and it's telling that Vegas believes that a 1-5 team from the Ivy League is essentially 7 points better than Drexel. I'm sure that oddsmakers looked at that pathetic show in Baltimore and determined that these players and coaches are just not strong enough to compete right now. Hopefully they show me, and our fans, and even that oddsmakers that we're all wrong.

RE: Princeton
Funny thing is its early enough in the season yet that there are always over reactions. Between the thrashing we took from them follow by them getting thrashed at American last night, I understand it. The fact of the matter is this is a home game and Spiker's teams generally play just fine at home. I still expect a victory tonight as this Princeton team isnt that great and we have the talent we should win this game. Disrespecting a Spiker team on the road, completely makes sense and is warranted. With it being at home, it is a bit surprising. If we don't show up we can lose to anyone, that is for sure.

On a separate note, I really think the CAA is going to be a complete jumbled mess. Surprisingly, W&M is truly looking like the top team right now. Everyone else is so up and down the conference games should be a lot of fun. Northeastern lost to ODU who has lost to JMU and just got waxed by W&M. UMBC who just beat us, just got smoked by American, who already lost to W&M. Hofstra got blown out to Bucknell who lost to Princeton (their only win) yet Hofstra went out west and beat UCLA, just as a few examples.

The irony is that after the Eagles game on Sunday, I'm telling people not to overreact and that they still have a 35% chance to win the division and can still win their last four games.

But with Drexel, I may actually be overreacting to one game. I'm just waiting for this team to advance to the next level, and I know that the team wants to as well.
But teams that want that don't get blown out by mediocre America East teams...period.

Alan Boston at AAD doesn't feel the same way as dan10 does about this game. Maybe because he's an Ivy League guy???

We shall see.

I would always take an Alan Boston review over one of my own. Just saying. I dont put a lot of time into the research that he does especially for teams I do not follow. I try to give just enough to create conversation here.

Teams are on fire. Under 4 media timeout score is 37-37. We are shooting 71%! Princeton has 6 offensive rebounds and has taken 7 more shots than us for the same number of makes. Not a good sign to be shooting and scoring so well and the game be competitive.

RE: Princeton
Up 40-39 at half. Cam had a huge half finally on offense, with 16. 5 turnovers a positive. But gave up 7 offensive boards.

PU: 16-34 FG, 4-14 3Pt
DU: 16-27 FG, 3-6 3Pt

Great offensive half, but very concerning to shoot this well and only be up 1. When a drought comes this game could get away quickly

Under 12 and we are up 11. Playing very well. This aggressive Cam has been MIA all season. Hopefully this gets him going. Especially important after his piss poor effort in Baltimore

Under 4 media up 73-59. Cam still playing out of his mind. This has been a great game. A shame it wasnt well attended for a local ppponent (and a double header). Hopefully we close this one out and this game can instill confidence going forward

RE: Princeton
Final:82-76

Cam with 31
Butler with a double double again with 18-12

Damn near collapsed in this one as well. Turnovers and missed free throws. We were solid on free throws until they mattered, where we missed all 3 front ends followed by the first of the 2, and that was enough to allow Princeton back in it with a chance to tie. Went from a comfortable double digit lead to a 1 possession game. However great game from Cam and Butler (even though he had stretches where he was forcing it). Take a nice victory and move on. La Salle wont be easy up next. We shot 60% for the game. Princeton shot 41%

RE: Princeton
It was a fun night at DAC to see a doubleheader sweep, and a good win for the MBB team tonight. There were some really nice efforts tonight, and I thought that they played really well defensively. Wynter was phenomenal and really gave them some huge scoring boosts at a time when Princeton was making a run. Butler was a beast once again, especially on defense. And I saw a really nice defensive effort tonight by Okros. Tadas also gave Drexel some nice points in his limited minutes. It was definitely a nice relief to see a solid effort after the crap game on Saturday.

Naturally, we want to see them do a better job of finishing off the game. Missing all 3 of their front ends of 1 and 1's is usually a recipe for disaster. They really did struggle against Princeton's press. It did get a little scary at the end by they still pulled it out.

Now they have to get ready for a much improved LaSalle team, who they beat each of the past 2 years. LaSalle hasn't lost a game at the DAC, probably since the early 80's. It will be nice if Drexel can continue their home winning streak and send them back to North Philly with a loss.

Turns out that your preview was the winner. You were really close to predicting the outcome compared to that loser Boston.

Blind squirrels find a nut once in a while.

However game flow didnt really follow my prediction as it was close for the first half then we led the rest of the way big before allowing them to creep back in. Regardless, it was a nice effort and we need to build on it. Their leading scorer scored 28 I think so allowing a scorer to go off and still win is important.

RE: Princeton
i watched the first half and part of the second half. i see what you guys are saying about this being spiker's best team. we finally have division 1 bodies for the most part. wynter in particular could play for a lot of teams. hopefully he'll stay. i wasn't so sure about the optimism after some of the recent blow outs...but agree some of the pieces might be there.

huge minutes from tadas last night. it was 1 game...but i would feel really good about spiker and his staff if they can turn him into a productive player.

I'm glad someone mentioned the defense. It was one of the better defensive efforts I've seen. 7 blocks and collapsing to the ball, and very good perimeter movement that shut down Princeton's effort to drive into the lane.
