West Florida, West Georgia and Valdosta State are the only real viable options.
That being said, West Georgia has mentioned publicly that they have and are exploring a move. Valdosta State has the big fish in small pond mentality (like UNA had in the 90s) they have said publicly they dont want any part of D1.
West Florida has the resources, and forward thinking to do it. Just need the opportunity. I am being told, they are serious contenders for an ASUN invite should someone leave or ALL schools decide 11 is okay, and I dont see the later happening being that that's one more mouth to feed with a small amount of food.
Those were the same ones I was thinking.
That trio, plus UNA, Kenn St, and maybe some start ups at UNF and FGCU would make for a nice League.
Even if they didn’t get the start ups, playing with Campbell, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, and Hampton wouldn’t be too bad.
Lets not forget Florida Tech is spending a lot of money for sports and academics big time. They added football before West Florida, and they are getting bigger with students being enrolled. They are closing in to 10,000 students and they are private. Outspending both Florida private schools right now in academics and in sports. 22 sports is a lot for a D2 school. The same amount that Bellarmine offers.
Florida Tech plays in a High School stadium. West Florida plays in a baseball field...
So does Stetson and Bethune Cookman.

Could be a good place for a new bowl to be at. The town is growing and FIT is the only game in town. Going D1 will help the image of FIT and the town itself. FIT bought the purchase to renamed the stadium as Florida Tech Panther Stadium. The high school could not afford the upkeep, but FIT could fix the stadium, and add more seats. It is a dual project where the university helping the high school out. This is how Azusa Pacific, Walsh and UTPB are doing along with Bakersfield Community College. Portland State is doing the exact same thing right now where there are plans to build a new stadium for the city sharing with the high school.
Ratliff is FCS\FBS lite in everything but name.

I'm impressed that Florida Tech has men's soccer, men's lacrosse AND football.
