The other job possibilities for Norvell, I'm not convinced he would take. We have a lot coming back, and MN has mentioned privately that he thinks we will be better next year, so he can afford to sit and wait on an FSU-like job next time around.

IMO, Arky and Ole Miss are dead end jobs in the SEC West. Missouri, I think he would take, but they seem to be going in a different direction.

Either way---Memphis has done a great job hanging onto him longer than I thought they would be able to...and they may yet get another year---who knows?

And...we have the Asst. HC waiting in the wings to take his place. OL coach, lead recruiter. Same schemes.

Assuming admin doesn't get greedy and go full on new search.

I sure hope not...last time we went for a 'recruiter' who 'understands the job' we ended up with Larry Porter.

Clay Helton or Chip Long for me.

Are you guys serious with clay Helton? At first I thought u were joking but I’ve seen it now more than once. I’m just gonna stick with you’re joking!

RE: Norvell to FSU?
Any Memphis fan thinking that Norvell is too committed to Memphis to pass on FSU needs a dose of reality. You are setting yourself up for major disappointment if you think a job on the level of FSU won’t sway him away. MSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss (for multiple reasons) are jobs I can see him choosing to stay at Memphis.

His coaching goals and aspirations go WAY further than Memphis, and should. Can’t blame him. He has done a heck of a job here, and I wish him all the best whenever he does leave (unless it’s Ole miss). If we can continually rotate good, offensive minded coaches through our program, we will be in good shape. It means we have a solid program. Unless we are moved to a P5 conference, this will be reality for all our good coaches.

Clay Helton or Chip Long for me.

Long never called plays at Memphis, and was only here one year.

Helton is still the coach at USC. He didn't get fired.

Silverfield has been here much longer, understands what we are doing, and has gotten a lot of our players here. The team LOVES him. They don't know Long or Helton.

Ryan Silverfield is no Larry Porter. I think he would kill it here.

Norvell currently is making $2.5 million a year. He'll now be able to receive a major boost by UofM to around $3.6 to as much as $4 million with incentives that will keep him happy, to feel appreciated and enough to pay his assistant coaches.

Norvell knows and loves the unique Memphis culture. Unlike Fuente who left for first offer to get out.

His wife loves Memphis. He calls himself a "Memphian".

Plus he has a rare good friendship with Penny and they support each other. Penny will tell our AD Veatch to pay Mike.

UofM also is completing our new IPF this spring that will impact recruiting. Our football facilities are now on par with many P5 programs.

We have national TV exposure (4 games this year on ABC), recruiting and a passionate growing fanbase and winning culture that he helped to build.

Norvell is gone. Maybe not this year, but soon. If FSU doesn't hire Campbell from ISU, they will go after Norvell, and he will take it.

If not, he could possibly take Missouri, if they are interested.

If not, he could possibly take Arky, due to his wife.

I doubt he would take Ole Miss. Dead end job, for sure.

Washington already hired a replacement, or he would have been interested in that one. I'm positive. Someone close to him mentioned it.

Norvell has been trying to leave for at least 2 years. Get used to it. He may stay one more year, but we would have to dodge a bullet from FSU, at least.

Just be happy Memphis is now good enough to lose coaches. Only happened once in 100 years before Fuente.

Agreed, I hope u guys win the conference and win the NY6 bowl game. I’ll always respect Frost for coaching the bowl game. I had no problem rooting for Frost after he delivered a perfect season and came back to see it all the way through. Hope Norvell follows the classy example!

Thank you and Scott Frost has my respect for that move also.

He’s considered one of the brightest up and comers in the sport, especially on the defensive side.

In this age where teams are making over $30 million minimum from their tv contract alone, anything is possible. Teams have money to burn. $10 million is still a lot though, plus he would need a raise.

RE: Norvell to FSU?
Would be disappointed to see MN take OM, AR job for the obvious reasons that he will be fired in 2-5 yrs. Same likely at MO. And MO may be the worse of the 3 jobs given the snowflakes in the MO admin who have campaigned to "de-emphasize" athletics & since the team has gone on strike. Not a good environment to build a winning program especially playing a very good UGA & UF every year just to win your division.

We were paying Rhule $3M a year and that contract got torn up. His wife worked at Temple. Rhule coached at Temple for 10 years. Norvell has been at Memphis for 4.

If MN leaves, I'm intrigued by the thought of the Tiger program pursuing Bill Clark at UAB. But he seems dedicated to the Blazer program.
