RE: Aresco Interview
I understand that UMass and UConn will have a trophy that consummates their new long-term football relationship. Two teams monitoring each other's life support.

That makes a lot of sense, since Aresco has proven to be a strategic thinker. The efforts to bring Navy and Wichita State aboard were savvy, strategic moves.
Every move he's made, in seeking to upgrade each AAC member's athletics, developing the conference's published strategic plan, pushing for P6 recognition and an automatic bid to NY6, negotiating a threefold increase in media payments and new broadcasting agreement with ESPN, and developing/implementing the post-UConn transition plan, has been thoroughly calculated.
It's a multi-pronged strategy, and the implementing tactics have been/are being handled deftly with only a few occasional/minor glitches. The ability to oversee the logistics and tactics, paired with a refined strategic vision and plan is the key to the success of any campaign. Without a commissioner like Aresco, the AAC wouldn't have been able to make the remarkable and ongoing progress that it has made so far.

Once we get a auto NY6 bid then everything else will fall into place. We should be buying our way into one like the ACC did; accept a lesser payout initially; put some money up front; etc. The perception and narrative will change one we are no longer competing for the G5 slot on NYD. The work by UCF, Memphis, Cincy, Houston, Temple, etc in football has gotten as far as it can.

Just to keep the timeline straight, Navy was among the initial invitees in November 2011 after the announcements of departures of Pitt, Syracuse, TCU's reversal, and then the announced departure of WVU.
Took a while to work things out, but Navy and the Big East signed our membership agreement in January 2012.
