The idea is to kick it to the 5-10, shallow enough that the returner thinks they should return it and whack them at the 20. I can't imagine that Wise can't kick it out the end zone.
Right, but if you have coverage issues, just kick it out of the endzone. Then, you don't have coverage issues.
If we "whack them at the 20," we gain a huge five yards. If we kick it out of the endzone, we give them the ball on the 25 instead of a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The risk/reward to gain five yards is clearly not worth it.

Watched the replay of the 93 yd run multiple times frame by frame.
-MU had a TE & HB line up left side.
-Both DTs looked like got double teamed. Groulx especially stood his blockers up. Can't blame either DT IMHOP.
-Daka crashed hard inside (maybe a stunt with Holloway, who stepped outside- maybe Holloway had outside contain?). The LT just rode Daka that way, and Daka went completely by Guerro.
-Guerro looked like he was going to initially go left, then super quick cut between the LG and OC.
-Holloway wasn't blocked, but was shielded from any chance on making the play by Groulx and the 2 guys who were double teaming him.
-On the other side Greene was doubled teamed, Carter looked he he had outside contain. For some reason Word, who went unblocked, just stepped to the outside, taking himself completely out of the play. If he had stayed inside he probably makes the tackle for at worst a few yard gain.
-Both safeties took bad angles.
1st play on Week 2 highlights:
Had at least 1 LB and 2 safeties screw up there.

Agreed. If that was our strategy, why does ever other team that has a kicker that can kick it out of the endzone just boot it out of the endzone? Eliminates any chance for a big play
With the fair catch rule the risk is much greater than the slight chance of pinning the opponent inside the 25. With the issues the kickoff team had had this year on coverage, I guarantee Cig would have Wise kick it to the end zone if he had the capability.

Yeah, found it interesting that the coaches were trying to look at our soccer players in attempt to find someone that could kick it into the endzone reliably.
Monmouth had some nice players. The RB and WR were both very fast and big play threats.
the QB was pretty decent, but not the scrambler he was made out to be before the game.
Overall, the 2 big play guys from them both hit big plays. But other than that, this game was the complete mismatch we expected. We dominated.....one sec.....we just scored again.
Ok, anyway, we dominated the game and HCCC made the correct call to get the starters out for the fourth quarter. There was never a doubt of a UNH comeback.

I get it that the ref approached him when he strutted with his hands on his hips just a bit, but I've seen waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse "celebration" let go.
I think the thing that bothered me was Daka once approached walked his way back to the defensive side of the ball. It wasn't like he stayed over on the Monmouth side and did a dance or something. The old school in me says do your 2 seconds of celebration and when the ref approached you, move on to the next play. The current day in me says the ref overreacted. Either way, the game was already decided by that time, but we certainly don't want or need to risk giving the opponent extra life due to celebrating and an overly sensitive ref in a close game when it might matter.
the Daka penalty was a joke. Unless he said something, the ref has thin skin and shouldn't be out there.
That said, Daka needs to do less showboating. Act like you've been there before.....and he's been there a lot this year.
I can't remember a guy we've had with as quick a first step off the line as he has. It's downright incredible. Many plays, you blink, and you miss him busting through unopposed to the QB. And it's not just to the outside around the tackle. I think both his back to back sacks before the penalty, he made an inside move and just busted through the line like a blitzing safety that goes untouched.
not since Moats has there been an edge rusher with the speed he has. It's too bad he isn't bigger becuase he's got zero shot at the NFL on a front four. he'd need to be a OLB or even a safety to stick. But he's never had any pass defending responsibilities at JMU, so that would be a steep learning curve for him at the next level.

Dwight Freeney was 6'1" 260 and had a long career. Daka is listed at 6'2" 228. If he can keep his speed and add good weight, he'll get a shot. Moats was 6' and 245, for comparison.

Regarding the anxiety with our kickoff coverage, let's hope we continue to get a lot of practice in that phase of the game. I mean, it's kind of a nice "problem" to have when you think about it. Sure, we need to do better. But, if we are kicking off 9 or 10 times a game, I think we'll be winning big.
Dukes whooped that a*s. Beat em like a drum. Too bad the FG block that would have gone for 6 was negated by a TO. Best part of the day was the subsequent kick getting blocked. What the heck is a Monmouth?
Sac St looked terrible. Even worse was the lack of fans on the side the camera faced.
UNI about to get shut out if the Dukes come to play from the get

They showed a few shots of the other side, and it wasn't much better.
Yep, could also hear a few individual voices yelling on the broadcast, it never sounded like a crowd to me, and looked like 50ish people in the stadium.
Even if we’ve got a monsoon, hope we turn out much better Friday night.
Former JMU WR Ezrah Archie transfers to Monmouth. I believe will have to sit but he may have already used a red shirt. Originally recruited by them and from NJ.

I recall him having a big game early on in his career, but never really stepped up to the next level.
