I think we may have been and that’s why the previous coach was quick to get out of Dodge.

I enjoy reading what you have to say, and everyone here is entertaining. But this view is so simplistic. Whenever a Coach leaves I read this. Also people were saying he stopped recruiting. What if he didn’t get another job? He would be stuck with a BAD team. I don’t believe it for a second that he didn’t give full effort in recruiting because he was looking for another job.

That said, he may have whiffed on some recruits. We all probably agree if Cronin was still here he would do better with this roster and his own roster. But many of us were OK with a change. Sacrifice some regular season wins, for some March success. Let’s see what happens in the next couple of years.

Don’t get me wrong though. I’m not happy. we almost always lose to eggs at Cintas Center. This year will be a easy victory by eggs, and I’m not even looking forward to the game.

Never underestimate the sheer force of will of personality. Huggins won a lot of games in his career utilizing and getting the absolute most out of guys who were often less talented than the guys we were beating into a pulp on the other team. Mick learned that from the master and mixed it with his west side ally cat personality.

We got spoiled for the past 30 years having coaches who were tough as nails and mean as senior chief boatswain’s mates.

I think any high major retread coach would be better then this crap. Team is going suck this year and next looks ugly. Better to hit the reset button again in the spring and find a real coach.
Chiming in late.

I wouldn’t call him crap. But I will say he does not know how to use his best players yet. And he definitely is not controlling things. I think we were definitely spoiled with Huggins and Cronin. They knew how to control things. I think this is one of the most important parts of coaching.

Like another poster said, the usage rate of some of the other players is way too high. The best players should be taking the most shots, and getting the most minutes.

7 games in and our new coach is called "crap." How's the former coach doing in LA with a roster that wasn't his? Oh, he's tough on players like a rabid midget though. First year records of former coaches 7 games in...

2019 Brannen 5-2
2006 Cronin 5-2
2005 Kennedy 5-2
1989 Huggins 5-2

Looks pretty consistent to me.

He does need to figure out PDQ how to make this roster work. If JC or Tre don’t fit exactly into his system he has to figure out how to utilize them better to get last years types of production out of both or that is squarely on the staff.

The only thing holding Tre back is Tre's decision making. His numbers are up in offensive rebounding, defensive rebounding, true shooting %, assists, blocks, steals, FT %, and 2 point % with a career high in usage rate.

But his turnover rate is almost double. In Brannen's words, he needs to play freely and not think.

RE: UNLV game
Cronin left for one reason, he thought he was an elite coach going to an elite program. He was half right.
