UVA defense philosophy
Just saw that UVA held Maine to 26 points in a 46-26 win. How is that possible with the invention of the 3 pt line? What do they do to keep the score so low?

Effort. Body length. Conditioning. Easier to recruit a 5* defender than a 5* PG.

Tons of people have the same formula. The last two GT MBB HC not named Josh Pastner were both defensive first coaches. Brian Gregory usually fielded a Top 25 defense (and a bottom 25 offense). Paul Hewitt had 5 people playing for themselves as NBA developmental talent so they barely did anything as a team. But the only thing Hewitt got them to do reliably as a team was defend.

The difference is UVA executes the formula at a very high level.

UVA defense philosophy
I would say others share similar defensive philosophies but none of them share the same horrendously slow offensive style.

Jamie Dixon's Pitt teams were defensive first.

RE: UVA defense philosophy
As echoed above, other teams have a defensive first philosophy or even play the same style of pack-line defense that the Cavs play, but most others aren't as good at it and don't combine that with the slowest tempo in D1 which puts possessions at a premium.

Despite the insane level of defensive efficiency they've displayed thus far (miles above #2 rated defense in Ken Pom), I have the same question I had pre-season. When they play high level opponents, where is the scoring going to come from this year? They're currently 84th in offensive efficiency. It's early but their shooting this year has been poor from deep and their offense was #2 last year for comparison. Bennett could prove us wrong once again though and they have UofL's number until proven otherwise.
