Offensive and Defensive player of the year
Nooch and Ron'Dell taking home the CAA honors! When's the last time a team had both the offensive and defensive players of the year?

The All-Conference teams sorted out mostly the way I expected, with 2 exceptions: Mike Greene (3rd Team) and Adeeb Atariwa (excluded). I was positive we'd see Greene on the first or second team and Atariwa on the 3rd.

I suppose it's hard for interior D-Linemen to get accolades when they're lumped in with the edge rushers who get all the stats.

Really seems like any of the three JMU guys on 2nd team could have slid into the 1st team.

Rashad
Polk
D. Stapleton (Excellent blocking this year even if the receptions weren't as high)

While we know how incredible Polk has been, there have been some really great WR's this season in the CAA. In my opinion it would have been tough to put Polk ahead of these 3 (CAA 1st team WRs):
Earnest Edwards- Maine 49 rec, 1097 yds, 11 TDs, 4.45 rec/game
Juwann Green- UAlbany. 73 rec, 1158 yds, 14 TDs, 6.08 rec/game
Aaron Parker- URI. 81 rec, 1224 yds, 9 TDs, 6.75 rec/game

Brandon Polk- 54 rec, 959 yds, 9 TDs, 4.50 rec/game

Polk has less yards than all three. He had same amount of TDs as Parker, but Parker had more yards and a lot more receptions.
IMO Polk being second team is more than fair. His speed is probably more than any WR in CAA (or FCS for that matter), but these awards are generally based on statistics. And statistics alone, he just didn't get it done. Unfortunately our offense isn't as pass happy as these others in the conference (Maine 1st, URI 2nd, UAlbany 4th. We were 7th).

This is all about how we work on offense where we spread the ball around. We have 2 of the best RB's in the CAA, but we share the ball so much it is hard to make these awards. Nice to see Juwan make 3rd team however.

Yep. Polk was actually only 7th in the CAA in receiving yards. Update to what I said on the URI thread:
Better offenses, more passing, worse pass defenses, or a combination of the 3? CAA # of 1,000 yd receivers:
2019: 5 (and 2 more, including Polk, just under)
2018: 0
2017: 2
2016:1
2015: 1
2014: 3
2013: 4
2012: 2
2011: 1
2010: 0
2009: 0
2008: 2
2007: 3
2006: 1
2005: 1
2004: 4
2003: 1

Most years Polk would have been top 3 in receiving and a shoe in 1st team All CAA. But this was the best season for WR in the history of the league. VU's Changa Hodge, who had over 1,000 yds receiving, and a huge game vs JMU, got 3rd team All CAA. I agree, 2nd team wasn't a snub on Polk.

Coversely, was only 1 rusher over 1,000 yds, Mofar, the kid for Albany (had 1204). Without looking it up, I'm guessing most seasons were between 3 to 4. Percy was the 3rd leading rusher in the CAA, and got 1st team All CAA with 884 yds rushing. A lot of seasons with those #s he would have been 5th or 6th in the CAA, and 2nd or 3rd team. League wide passing was up, and rushing was down, for whatever reason.

I was pointing out Greene to my brother during the URI game, and said he should get 1st team All CAA, and has been almost as dominant as the de ends, but due to them not wanting to give 3 of 4 1st team spots to JMU, he'll probably get 2nd team. 3rd is a sleight surprise. To me that is probably the #1 snub for JMU.

And Atariwa probably deserved 3rd team..

RE: Offensive and Defensive player of the year
8 on offense made an All CAA team.
The ones that didn't were Jahee Jackson, Riley Stapleton and the Gillespie/Bethea platoon.

8 on defense made an All CAA team.
The ones that didn't were Wesley McCornick, Adeeb Atariwa and Wayne Davis

Those are some damn good players there who were left off. It's a numbers/fairness thing I imagine, though I don't agree with it. Can't imagine there's 9 receivers better than Riley Stapleton. And I wonder if Wayne Davis's hybrid position hurts him in these types of votes.

Jackson was 2nd team 2017, and Riley was 2nd team last year. Missing the 1st 3 games didn’t help. So 10 of 11 on offense have made All CAA in the past..

Congrats to DiNucci and Carter, as well as all the other JMU players on the All-CAA Teams! Go Dukes!

I was looking over the stats for some of the other players in the running for OPOY and the Albany QB caught my eye. Jeff Undercuffler, who is just a FR. He has a crazy stat line:

Att Cmp Int Pct. Yds TD Avg/G
266 146 3 54.9 2063 21 257.9 (CAA games)

Led the league in TDs and 2nd in passing yards, but way down on the list in completion percentage. How does a guy only complete 55% of his passes but have a 7 to 1 TD to INT ratio?
