We could win end up in Birmingham vs G5 also.

Highly unlikely, UC would get top choice as league champion. Lose and we could see Birmingham but win and the league will proctect it’s champion.

Top choice of what? It is still possible to get the Cotton Bowl if we win, but after that what bowl are you thinking of?

– Jared Birmingham Bowl vs. SEC
– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparillia Bowl vs. Conference USA
– Hawaii Bowl vs. BYU or Mountain West (Hawaii BYU)
– Military Bowl presented by Northrup Grumman vs. ACC Likely Navy)
– Cheribundi Tart Cherry Bowl vs. Conference USA
– AutoNation Cure Bowl vs. Sun Belt
– Frisco Bowl vs. At-Large

The American Athletic has secondary partnerships with the AutoZone Liberty and Walk-On’s Independence, to fill if the main affiliations can’t fill their slots.

There is no tie in for the AAC to that bowl.

Yes, but there’s a strong possibility the SEC can’t fulfill that obligation.

It's kind of ****** that Navy automatically gets our best bowl tie-in every year that they're eligible for a bowl. I mean, I get why, but it still sucks.

They will not fill 4 for sure. I checked the bowl payouts....you might be right. The Texas Bowl pays more than the Belk/Music City/Liberty/ and of course Independence.
Lose or win, we could end up Nashville or Charlotte, maybe Jacksonville.
SEC will not fill for sure Independence and Birmingham and then at least 2 of the below. Assuming Florida goes to the Cotton, which many believe

Music City
Nashville, TN
$5,650,000 ACC/Notre Dame vs. SEC

Belk
Charlotte, NC
$4,505,556 ACC/Notre Dame vs. SEC

Liberty
Memphis, TN
$4,294,681 Big 12 vs. SEC

Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, FL
$3,168,292 SEC vs. ACC/Big Ten/Notre Dame

Texas
Houston, TX
$6,300,000 Big 12 vs. SEC

Personally I think it’s Birmingham or it’s UC taking a spot then isn’t filled by a power five team. UC isn’t going to slotted to play in the bowl game pre christmas based on playing next week.

I agree; I just don't see UC in a minor bowl this season. I wouldn't rule out the Military Bowl for UC, even though it would be consecutive years. If Memphis gets the Cotton, UC will be the most desired pick; partly as divisional champ but more for having a strong reputation for selling bowl tickets and getting fans to the game. For bowls, it's all about the money.

So I concur with your idea that UC will end up with a P5 opponent in Birmingham, Memphis or filling a P5 opening elsewhere. Maybe a week from now we'll know?

Florida State is trash but I'd rather beat a trash P5 school than a trash G5 school. Also would provide another direct benchmark to use in comparison to Boise State as proof of UC being better in 2019.

Boise State won 36-31.

Everyone is prediction SEC to Orange and Cotton. That opens up 2 other decent bowls to back fill.

So, how exactly does the back fill work? If the two spots that opened up are in better bowls, can those bowls then invite a desirable team like UC or do they need to negotiate some sort of buyout with one of the bowls that the American is tied to? Then, those bowls back fill?

No exact formula exists for the 2 extra bowls. AAC is an official back fill for Independence and Liberty. I would send Tulane to the Independence Bowl. I guess Liberty could be Memphis/Cincy/SMU? Besides Indy/Birmingham SEC will not fill 2 of these
– AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Big 12
– Belk Bowl vs. ACC
– Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl vs. ACC or Big Ten (most likely the ACC)
– Outback Bowl vs. Big Ten
– TaxSlayer Bowl vs. ACC or Big Ten (most likely the Big Ten)
– Texas Bowl vs. Big 12

My guess is that ESPN will play a role in the back fill selections.

As I recall, ESPN has an ownership interest in some of the bowls so I'm sure they're going to try to feather their own nest with teams that draw more eyeballs.

But those quality, mid-level bowls are pretty much free to pursue their next best option when the contract is unfulfilled and the lower level bowls will be left scrambling to fill the slots the American vacates. Did I just read there are 78 slots and we already have 80 schools eligible? "Backfills" will be ready and waiting, all the way down the pecking order.

I think UC will be fine. By that I mean, a P5 opponent and a decent middle tier bowl. If it's fan accessible for Cincinnatians, all the better.

The only AAC Bowls I will attend are Military and Birmingham. Been to both in the past. I will attend a good SEC or B12 fill in. The rest of the AAC Bowls are toilet bowls to which I say NO WAY!.
