Many believed in Helton but thought it would be a process and reboot season. To be a win away from 8-4 with an FCS loss and a chance to go to a decent bowl is a great feeling. I thought the Sanford disaster would set us back 5 years, but Todd Stewart making the hard decision to move on after 2 dumpster fire years and bring back the same culture and style from the glory years of 15 and 16 has proven to be massive. The rumor was Todd wanted to hire Helton after Brohm left but he had just accepted the OC position at USC 10 days earlier and had already moved his family and bought a house. Timing was just off and kudos to Todd for going back and getting his guy after plan B failed miserably. Always have respected USM football and its a big win for our program.
That's 100% bullcrap and you should know it. Todd must have floated that one to cover his "Dreamer Boy, Idiot, hire. Hell he spent the last two years running down Brohm and his whole staff. Boy Idiot was his #1 choice and most Western fans know this.
Helton was the QB and passing game coordinator for USC. Huge difference than OC and head coach of a school that saw 3 of the previous 4 coaches move on to 4-6 million a year jobs.
Why would anyone think it would take 5 years to get back to 7 wins? G5 FB is all about coaching and system. Especially if the problem was coaching. If you believe Todd Western had the best recruiting, ever, under Boy Idiot. So the talent was never lacking...coaching was.
Helton is light years better than the idiot but playing in CUSA...you should
start a bad season at 6 wins. If you are a good coach and Helton seems to be just that. Western was not rebuilding from 3, 4 5 losing seasons, with no talent. Western was recovering from a idiot that was 4 bad play calls away from 7 wins, last year. With almost everyone returning for this season....
after the way the season started...8 or 9 wins will be a very good season. But still 2 bad play calls away from a 3rd CUSA championship...I have no doubt Ty Helton will learn from his mistakes. But it still hurts
