The city is great. I can't say South Alabama were that great as host. If you know what I mean. At least y'all got a FBS win this year....

Well it's not every week you get to play the 126th-ranked defense.

Y'all are 125th now. USA also scored half that amount of points vs the now-126th ranked defense.

I’m hoping for good big things once we get on campus.

Next year the scoreboard will directly into the broadcast window. The equipment to do that from Ladd’s ancient one costs $200,000 so USA decided to save the money and do it manually knowing that it was a temporary problem.

Arkansas St brought a decent contingent on the other side of the stadium.

Was a little worried driving in when the traffic guard said cash parking is pretty much the lawns as the neighborhood looked sketchy. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. Mobile was first class in supplying cop cars and traffic controllers in the blocks surrounding the stadium. Felt completely safe.

I’m a sucker for vintage stadiums but Ladd-Peebles is due for the bulldozer. Can’t imagine how those concourses fit the Auburn or Alabama crowds back in the day. Loved the Ladd Peebles tribute video at halftime!

Mobile is a hidden gem with friendly people. Can’t wait to check out Whitney Hancock on a future Black Friday.

Mobile is a wonderful place that I would love to go back to. I think about going every time we play at USA.

I like a good old stadium as much as anybody, but yeah Ladd ain't that. It's just an old dump in a bad area. Glad that the Jags are getting their own stadium, and maybe I'll come down in a couple years when we play there again.

I think there's some law which prohibits Ladd Peebles from being demolished on the account of it being a Confederate memorial or something to that extent. Hopefully once USA goes to greener pastures the city will fix it up for the bowl games it still hosts.

As for Mobile, I heard nothing but praise for the city and its citizens when we went down there for the Dollar General Bowl a few years back. I didn't go but I heard enough feedback to conclude it's a genuine good-natured city.

It's a wonderful city. "Hidden gem" as described in the first post of this Russian nesting doll of quotes is a perfect description. I assume it's probably harder for you to make it down there, but if given the opportunity I highly recommend it.

Mobile is a GREAT bowl destination. The downtown area has a nice selection of bars and restaurants all within walking distance of the team hotels. It's not like NOLA for a major event because you can walk to the Dome as well from the Quarter hotels but it beats most bowl cities in that there is so much in walking distance of team hotels. From a bowl standpoint only thing better than moving to USA's stadium would have been if USA and the local government had partnered for the stadium to be built just north of downtown. That wouldn't have been in USA's best interest except maybe in financing but perfect for the bowl

This was a classic sunbelt game. Back and forth scoring with athletic plays and silly, sloppy penalties. Probably the first game that was actually fun to watch for us this year. I had a feeling before the game we might have a chance but I’ve been feeling that for the last few games. It’s been a steady improvement since Trotter took over QB and stAte lost the draw I guess. Good game.

Caught most of the game and thought it was a good game. Didn’t think USA would pull it off.

The first 5 minutes. Unfortunately, South is far from being FBS worthy. We have some really good players, but the coaching is nothing short of horrendous.

To any Jaguar fans that might read this, I truly apologize for doubting.

I’m just proud of the team for not quitting and mailing it in for the last game of a bad season. Was a great game to watch.

Any win is a good win if there are limited to no injuries. After a horrendous year like this one, this one was good because we don’t go 0-8 in the conference plus we say goodbye to the old bucket of bolts. Oh and I have to add, beating Arkansas State is especially satisfying.

That's on you for severely underestimating the chaotic mess that is our football program.

Look at the fun situation we cooked up now:

1. By losing today, Blake failed to achieve the required number of wins per year (8) to earn an automatic 1 year contract extension. His contract currently expires at the conclusion of the 2020 football season.

2. There's currently a battle in our fan base between people who are satisfied with 7 wins a year and bowl games, and who feel that BLake should stay as long as he wants, and those that expect to be able to challenge App at the top of the league and at minimum win the West most of the time. Last night we had another verbal spat between players and fans on Twitter that led to a lot of deleted "we don't need fans anyway" tweets.

3. In the best case scenario, Anderson remains extremely unpopular among large portions of our fan base. It is extremely difficult right now for Mohajir to offer a contract extension to a coach this unpopular. It might force a lot of the heat to shift onto Terry and his 450K a year salary.

4. Likewise, you can't fire a coach whose wife just died of cancer, not without destroying any PR you have.

5. Likewise as well, you can't really knowingly send a football coach into a lame duck season next year with no contract guarantee, and facing a very difficult schedule, not without killing any chance of those coaches to recruit.

And none of this mentions the lasting damage losing yesterday will do to bowl ticket sales, and season ticket sales for next year. While also trying hard to continue to sell the premium donor seats that people are giving up left and right for free.

So what on earth do you do?

He should be coaching for his job next season. 8+ wins against FBS let him stay. We may lose out on a class of recruits but I can't watch us have the same mistakes plague us every year. We always lose a game we have no business losing and there is no way we can get ranked or make any serious noise like that.

Anderson could easily fix this if he hired the best available coordinators instead of it being a revolving door for his friends. But we are more concerned with having one big fun family. **** that I want to win.

Steve Campbell owns Blake Anderson

Mohajir is pretty known at this point to not fire anyone, so the more likely route out involves not extending him, and if we fail to win 8 next year, just let the contract expire and move on without having to pay a buyout.

The ideal way would be to get Anderson to pull a John Brady and just announce his departure early on, so we've got time to recruit and hire a coach and allows him to leave on his own accord. But I don't expect Blake to do that.

This happened to USA. Joey Jones was in a lame duck season and with the early signing period going into effect, it really hindered Coach Campbell’s first recruiting class.

While I agree stAte is a hot mess right now it takes nothing away from the Jags victory. I agree with everything said about us but South came out and beat us. Good win to them.

(11-26-2019 10:21 AM)arkstfan Wrote:  AState at USA has so far been an interesting set of games. History says to not expect a run of the mill game Friday.

2013. Red Wolves go to the locker room down 6-0 in what was the first game for some cat named Eli Drinkwitz to call plays at the FBS level after Harsin fired himself as playcaller. Junior Frankie Jackson takes over the locker room at half urging everyone to not let the seniors down. Red Wolves score 17 and take a 17-16 win.

2015. AState leads 14-7 and then gives up two unanswered TD's in the second quarter to trail 21-14 at the half. Blake Anderson goes full energy at halftime, punches a wall breaking his hand. AState trails 31-20 in the fourth quarter. Red Wolves then score 29 points in 5:17 for a 49-31 win.

2017 Red Wolves outgain the Jags but doesn't matter as they trail the entire game. AState gets a shot at the lead on a drive starting with 8:10 left but Justice Hansen fumbles into the end zone recovered by USA for a touchback, then gets a chance at redemption with 2:06 left, after a first down and moving to midfield Hansen throws a pick and USA runs out the clock. Red Wolves turn it over six times and are -5 on turnovers. First ever South Alabama win over AState but not enough to save Joey Jones.

I stand by my post from Tuesday.

When the Red Wolves go to Mobile, it gets weird.

Congrats to USA! Y’all played a heck of a ball game. Your QB and the WR that we couldn’t cover should be CO-POW for offense in the SBC...we could not stop either of them.
