Three straight games in the Liberty Bowl?
I just saw that both ESPN writers have predicted UC to play in the Liberty Bowl game. They could potentially finish their season with three straight games in Memphis. How weird would that be?

I thought "Would the city of Memphis want to see us get blitzed 3 in a row?"

I doubt it.

RE: Three straight games in the Liberty Bowl?
Talking heads aren't giving the BEarcats any chance of beating Memphis next friday...
and I get it after how poorly they have played recently.

However, if the Bearcats can win friday...that is a huge if...
then the championship game would be at Nippert not a the Liberty Bowl...
and playing at home against Navy or Memphis I would like the Bearcats chances.

But first things first...beat Memphis.

I won't bet against the cats but if I didn't have a rooting in us I'd bet Memphis all day. That line goes up I'm sure.

Ironically it looks like it's going the other way. I saw a site that opened at 12 and is down to 9.

Not likely. If the AAC takes the access bowl spot then they do not have enough teams for the 7 bowls they have tie ins with. The only way they have a spot in the Libertybowl is if the SEC or Big 12 does not have enough teams to fill their spots and the AAC has an extra bowl team.

Bolded, I think that will happen. The P5 conferences stockpile bowl contracts and usually fall short of filling them all. American teams are primed to move up the ladder this year and the conference's contracted minor bowls will engage in the same sort of horse trading that the higher-level bowls will do to find attractive matchups. Attractive mostly because those schools' fans will actually buy tickets.

Cincinnati has earned a good reputation for fans traveling to bowl games and that won't go unnoticed--most bowls follow the dollars.

RE: Three straight games in the Liberty Bowl?
My (probably weak) attempt at putting on absolutely neutral glasses has:

Memphis 31
UC 17

We go on the road, with the choice between an injured QB, and one who has never started, or even played meaningful snaps. If we do manage to win, open the vault, do what it takes to keep Luke here.

17 seems a bit high, can the defense pull that off?

RE: Three straight games in the Liberty Bowl?
Two offenses we've played are statistically better than Memphis - Ohio St and UCF. Only Ohio St has an elite defense of these three teams. Memphis scores about 42 points per game and Cincinnati's defense allows just under 20 per game. That's the key matchup in addition to the turnover margin IMO.

Scoring Offense
8 Memphis - 42.2 points/game
64 Cincinnati - 29.9 points/game

Scoring Defense
23 [tied] Cincinnati - 19.9 points/game
48 Memphis - 24.5 points/game

I keep hoping there are a few pages of the offensive playbook that the staff has been sitting on just for this game. If not, probably just too much to ask of any D.

We were 15 point dogs to Ohio State and 3.5 dogs to UCF. Is Memphis closer to Ohio St or UCF? The 11.5 spread seems a bit high to me but I admit I'm not always a realist in these matters. I realize this a road game but 40,000+ in the Liberty Bowl is not 106,000 in Columbus. I agree that we can't expect our defense to do it all by themselves. Ridder has to play better than he has over the past month. Denbrock needs to call some plays to get Ridder in a rhythm and I hope Tre and Deguara are a part of that. That said, Ridder's legs will probably be a key tomorrow when it comes down to getting a win. Hey, all we can ask for is to be in a position to have this opportunity and here we are...
