Boise would likely get it if Navy was AAC champ. assuming Boise wins MWC champ game. App state would have to have sun moon, and stars align for them to get it.
App State with two P5 wins vs Navy that got blown out in only P5 game?
Not all P5 games are the same. Navy played Notre Dame, not North and South Carolina.
Getting slaughtered by a weak P5 team is worse. Notre Dame’s signature win is USC
I just looked at today's AP poll and I see that Notre Dame has wins over 3 teams that are currently ranked. Not ranked 5 weeks ago, but right now.
How many other teams in the top 25 can say the same? Not many.
Notre Dame is #11 in the Massey Composite. They are arguably the most under-ranked team in the entire Top 25, by the polls and the CFP.
And yet teams they have beaten, like Virginia Tech and Navy seem to have a better chance to play in an NY6 bowl than they do.
Crazy.

they might have 3 win vs top 25 teams.... BUT doesn't help as much when they are only vs 23, 24, and 25. The 2 teams that are above that they lost. They are hurt perception wise by how bad the ACC has been this year.

Notre Dame has looked very good to excellent almost all year. They laid one egg - at Michigan. Against a Michigan team that was written off early on but is now playing like gangbusters and could give Ohio State a very tough game.
That's it, one bad game among a lot of really good ones. And yet, being consigned to the second-rung Orlando bowl. Sad.

well, that's how the ball bounces... wish they could go Orange bowl and take the ACC's spot.

Orange Bowl could take ND but likely go with SEC. Committee could put them in the Cotton Bowl??????

there isn't a selection. It's from the committee's ratings- the highest rated from SEC, Big Ten, and ND MUST go.. ND would have to pass a lot of teams to get that....

Yes, Florida would have to lose to FSU, and that is just on the SEC side. On the B1G side, among OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Wisky, and Minnesota, three would have to fall behind ND.
Not happening.
Now, on the ACC side, if there is no ranked ACC team, then there is a decision. The OB board would decide which ACC team gets the bid. But on the other side there is no choice.

App State beat two mediocre teams. Navy lost to a top 12 Notre Dame.
Lost to a top 12 by five scores. That’s getting to participation trophy standards

The MWC championship game would be Hawaii at Boise State which would be another rematched.
