Which is the fiercest rivalry in the SEC....and why?

note: Forgive me if I left out one that might be deserving of this poll.....it's late and I tried.... 03-wink Just post one if you have one in mind that I don't have listed. Just for fun anyway.

I went with Ole Miss-LSU. What you say? I really don't consider State-Ole Miss a fierce rivalry like that. Yes they are rivals, but I think it is more for in-state bragging rights more than anything else. Now Ole Miss and LSU, that is a blood letting or at least it used to be. Now some folks might disagree with me and hey that is fine, but this is how I see it thru clear glasses. :D As far as the other ones, I consider Auburn~that other team, the same as State-Ole Miss, might be a bit nastier but still an in state rivalry, Georgia-Florida also gets consideration. Damn 10, you made a poll that has some really good choices on it.

I had to to with Alabama-Auburn though Ole Miss-Miss St. is a close 2nd. I think Alabama has more respect for Auburn than Ole Miss has for MSU and that makes the rivalry a little different. But I'm sure I wouldn't want to be in a bar full of 'Bama fans and yell,"Go Auburn . . roll over the Tide"! I wish LSU-Arkansas was more intense, but it is getting there. Our last three games have been intense and since we knocked them out of the title race last year, they will want some hog blood in November. Go Hogs!

I went with UGa-UF. These two teams literally hate each other, and like to rub it in the loser's face.

I agree with everything said so far, and thanks for the compliment on the substance of this poll, 64.

All these rivalries are very good, some intense, and some just downright hatred. 03-lol
Most historical or storied traditional rivalry would've been Bama-Auburn, hands down. But fiercest? I had to go homer on y'all and go with Ole Miss-MSU. Yes, the OM-LSU rivalry is downright chocked full of loathing. 03-wink But the MSU-OM rivalry, to me, is extremely ugly. I'm basing this on years of visual proof I've had at games. :D Remember '97, I think it was, where they had to delay the Egg Bowl by about 20 minutes, due to both teams getting in a all-out brawl before kickoff? That's what prompted my vote, and that wasn't the first brawl trust me, not to mention a little bias in my pick, too, probably.

But, there are some others listed here that would certainly qualify. Just depends on who you are, I guess.

Keep those votes and opinions coming, though.

10man, I saw that Egg Bowl. There were guys swinging helmets at each other and even coaches getting into it. When you talk about Ole Miss/MSU, that is in a league of it's own because of the pure disdain. But the intensity between 'Bama and Aub is a little bigger because the game is a usually bigger in the conference. (No offense). 'Bama and Aub usually are playing for a big bowl game or conference championship, etc. Do you think Arkansas and LSU will ever get to be a big rivalry? I'm hoping so because we don't have a natural rival. Tennessee was getting there, but we don't play them every year. Our yearly game is South Carolina and we're as far away from each other as possible.

I went for Ole Miss/MSU for historical reasons. I grew up hearing my parents talk about how intense this rivalry was when they were at Ole Miss in the early '60s glory days of Ole Miss football. Even though they didn't grow up in Mississippi, you'd swear they did just hearing them talk about "those **** Bulldogs"... 03-lol

A close second would be Bama/Auburn. Living not far from the Alabama state line as well as having many friends who went to Auburn, it sounds like this rivalry only seems to intensify each year.

Alabama and Auburn are the fiercest rivalry in the SEC because of the tradition both teams carry. Alabama and Tennessee has a lot of tradition too but this is an in-state rivalry which makes it different from that one. This rivalry also has had amazing finishes and I believe started about 100 years ago with Auburn winning the first game. Alabama and Auburn is the fiercest rivalry in the SEC.

I'd say it's a fierce rivalry among the fans, but among the teams??? I have yet to see Alabama and Auburn players get in numerous brawls, ala' UGa-GT or UF -FSU

I went with Bama and AU because it seems the coaches jobs are often on the line. I really did'nt consider TN and Bama until after I voted. There is a lot of hate betwwen those two.
