Let me say this: I'm a soft, effete, pretentious middle-aged white man living high above the "unwashed masses" in a expensive condo tower in downtown Nashville. I admit my shortcomings and would likely scoff at these young people more than you would. There is a absurdity to what they are doing.

Having said that ... we all need to be more respectful of the earth and the environment.

So in a way ... good for these "young rich, privileged, white kids telling everyone else" about the realities of the planet. Let's open our eyes and be respectful.

My sister-in-law has two degrees from the UofL and I often root for the Cards. You and I would probably get along fine ... until you wanted to punch me.
Considering the solutions we're being offered are "eat insects, don't breed, and live in a shipping container," can you blame us for being a little skeptical?

I'm a tofu-eating vegetarian, single man with no kids. I walk to work (rarely drive) and live in a small condo. I would like a 400-square-foot tiny house and a Smart car if I could afford either (or both, which I can't).

I think progressives have gone about the desire to address climate change — and to make people aware of it — in a very ineffective (and often insulting) manner. Too many use the "blame game." That'won't work.

My motto is simple: Live humbly, don't consume to access and treasure your family and friends more so that material possessions.

And, yes, to be fair, I can see how many would be skeptical.

I've thought being single and doing sports/travel hobbies I love without obligations in the way would be in my long-term interest but fear the stigma of "single, no kids, something's wrong with him". Glad to read someone else choosing that life.

It's clearly not a lifestyle for most folks. And, you are correct, there are stigmas attached to it.

On thing I enjoy is devoting a good bit of time (mainly on the phone) to my elderly parents. That's easy to do since I don't have a family.

I know lots of folks who have a more conventional lifestyle but are working to drive a bit less, eat a bit more healthily, have less "stuff," etc. They are making progress.

It’s time to support these protesters. I propose each of us build a bonfire and invite them over for a wiener roast.

How does one be "respectful" of an inanimate object like "the earth" or "the environment"?

You're talking about our planet as if it has feelings.

You're talking about "the environment" as if it's a superbeing or a deity that can think and respond to actions humans take.

A protest like that does nothing to advance there cause. Want to prove you care, stay after the game for trash pickup, organize a stream cleaning or use the respective schools massive endowments to create the inventions needed. What happened yesterday was the equivalent of a $#!+post on reddit.

This is the equivalent of a 2 year old laying down in the isle of the grocery store and screaming because they didn't get a cookie. It was equally effective.
