Injury Screening Fund
I have plenty to say about our athletic department having to solicit donations for what should be a basic asset. Instead, here's the link if you'd like to donate. Our Tribe wants $20k but has only raised $170 over a couple of days.

Athletics has put a lot of money into the ‘performance’ department already. Way more than ever before. I wouldn’t call the items they want to buy basic assets. They are state of the art devices to be used by very forward thinking staff hired over the last two years. I applaud them for trying this or any other method of procuring what they believe will protect and set apart our student-athletes. Hopefully, there’s a fall back because this doesn’t seem to be working. Has to be one or two good donors out there to take care of this.

That pic shows a giant video board in the background. If you buy that, can you see the limp before it becomes a gimp?

I kid, I kid. But seriously, I have no clue what "injury screening device" exists. I think they call that a doctor...

Injury Screening Fund
Our Athletic Department is begging for $20,000 to meet a basic need. $20,000, not $2mil. That's the point.

The larger point--the massive pink elephant in the room--is that our athletic budget is in such bad financial shape, they cannot allocate $20k to something like this.

We usually see fundraisers for facilities, fancy trips, or stadium lights, not a piece if medical equipment.

Anyway, please give what you can.

By the way, check out the donors list...players' parents. Wow.

Based on the description (and the Forcedecks website), this is not a "basic need." I echo the above comments that this is a desired piece of equipment by our newly expanded Sports Performance dept, but realistically, this is not medical equipment and there is limited data as to its true efficacy in preventing injuries. Not saying it cant work, but it is certainly theoretical and the AD probably has to draw a line somewhere for these pet projects/equipment, as there are piles of potential items to toy around with.

Also, the donors list being largely parents isnt a surprise. This is a part of crowdfunding initiative of the University as a whole ("Tribefunding"). There are other projects such as funding the Mortar Board to pay for the Yule Log ceremony, a yearly tradition and funds to help low-income students pay for college. Id say that is more worthy of eyebrow raising. Perhaps this is just a smart initiative to increase donor funds near the holidays while people feel generous and WM asks departments for ideas on what to ask for?

Views on crowd funding seem to be generational. While I agree with you that crowd funding is begging, my children see it very differently. They see it as a normal fund raising function for individuals and organizations, not begging.

RE: Injury Screening Fund
This was amusing. From the link, what happens if the ....

"Goal Not Met: less equipment

Goal Exceeded: more equipment"

You would think that the author could come up with something better. Even ....

"Goal Not Met: more susceptibility to preventable injuries (less injuries prevented)"

"Goal Exceeded: less susceptibility to preventable injuries (more injuries prevented)"

Get rid of one of the useless new hires and you can buy three of them. This is embarrassing to me.

This misses the point entirely. The new hires and this piece of equipment are part of modernizing the athletic department and giving recruits something shiny to see.

The only thing shiny that recruits need to see are all the shiny championship trophies .....
