"P5" Term a Joke - Computers have AAC above ACC & Pac 12
1 Big Ten
2 Southeastern
3 Big 12
4 American Athletic
5 Pacific-12
6 Atlantic Coast

Minus Oregon and Clemson, the Pac 12 and ACC are looking at 24 horrible teams improperly termed "Power" and treated with undeserved bias by the media and committee.

i'm as big of a AAC fan as you get, but to say Minus Oregon and Clemson is a joke. Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

P5 was never about power ON FIELD.

It was about economic clout and no booster of AAC is deluded enough to proclaim the league's economic clout equals any P5.

the Mark system has them 2nd behind only the Big 10. But only a handful have them 4th, a few have them 5th and the vast majority have them 6th. Only 14 of the 110 systems in the Colley Composite have them rated higher than 5th. Now it is true none have them rated lower than 6th.

Which is to say that the AAC is ranked where it has always been - the sixth strongest FBS conference on the field. And, by most other metrics (revenues, attendance, etc) they are also a clear #6.

They are like the P5 conferences in one respect. When it comes to conference realignment, they have nowhere to go but down. They would be weakened by any additions they might be able to make, and they would be weakened by any schools they might lose via callup to the P5.

Their status is pretty much going to remain quo for the foreseeable future.

They're also most like the P5 academically. They have a high proportion of R1 research programs and strong grad programs. The latest listings have 62 of the 65 P5 R1 (up from 52 in the previous rankings). AAC has 7 of 12 with all but Navy R2. Rest of FBS is 14 of 53 (up from only 8 of 53 in the previous ranking) with 11 below R2.

This. Until they get the Wal-Mart fans and their media clout rivals their in state flagship counterparts it won't matter. Access to the playoffs is another matter and should be based on on field performance. And when/if they do reach that point I have a feeling the P5 conferences will feel it's time to expand again.

RE: "P5" Term a Joke - Computers have AAC above ACC & Pac 12
The AAC has the best record of any FBS conference against G5 opponents (only lost 1 game—none of the P5 can say that)

The AAC went 7-13 against P5 competition which is good for a win percentage of .350, which is better than the ACC’s .230 (3-10 with 5 games remaining, Clemson is the only one favored to win).

Also of note, the 12 member AAC collectively scheduled 20 OOC games against P5 foes to the 14 member ACC’s 18. Avg # P5 OOC games: AAC 1.67 ACC 1.29

The AAC most definitely out performed the ACC on the field.

When we were in the MWC with Utah and BYU, the MWC was often ranked above many BCS conferences at the time. Unfortunately, it meant very little. Is it fair, no, but what can you do?

Right now the playoff field is four and as yet AAC hasn't produced a strong candidate for 1-4. UCF might well have been in 2017 and 2018 but for hurricane disruptions. 2016 Houston might well have been but for having to play their conference schedule.
