Which of the likely contenders miss each other during the next two regular seasons?

FBSchedules.com, of course, has the full schedules. Dissapointed they didn't do my post-facto division idea.

As was mentioned it is essentially 6- and 5-team divisions with Tulsa-Memphis, Navy-Tulane, and (presumably??) SMU-Houston rotating which West division game is skipped each year.

Still haven't seen details of the waiver. Aresco said this Summer he wanted it to be top 2, but all I've seen about the waiver is that the AAC will still be able to hold a CCG... did they get the divisionless part or not???

Yes, the AAC got a waiver to go divisionless and hold a championship game.

RE: AAC announces football format for 2020 and 2021 seasons
So for 2020, it looks like they replaced the following games:

Cincinnati at UConn
UConn at ECU
Temple at UConn
UCF at UConn
UConn at USF
UConn at Houston
UConn at Navy
Tulane at UConn
USF at SMU
Tulsa at Memphis

... with these:

Cincinnati at SMU
Tulane at ECU
Temple at Navy
UCF at Memphis
USF at Houston
Tulsa at USF

Otherwise, the schedule is the same as had been planned.

In 2020, the exception is Memphis and Tulsa don't play each other, and have 4 old West and 4 old East foes.

In 2021, the exception is Navy and Tulane don't play each other, and have 4 old West and 4 old East foes.

Sounds like they’re still trying to get the NCAA to allow them not to use the divisions, but they scheduled in case they don’t get it?

That would have been wise, but maybe they just didn't want to change the planned schedule too much.

It's not the "no divisions" issue that the AAC needed a waiver for. The Big 12 got that rule changed a few years ago, so that is no longer a requirement.

What the AAC needed a waiver for is having a CCG while not playing full round-robin, which the rule presently requires if you do not have divisions.

So the AAC isn't making any assumptions about getting rules changed. The schedule is only for 2020 and 2021, the two years they have a waiver for.

Actually the 2022 conference games are listed too on the FBS Future Schedules for the AAC. However only 7 conference games are listed leaving the option opened for another conference member if one is picked up by then. 04-cheers

I think they scheduled based on the idea that they'd, at worst, get the MAC-UMass / CUSA-UAB waiver. So their schedule is compliant either way.

The important thing about the waiver isn't who plays who in conference. The important thing is A) having a CCG and B) how you pick who goes to the CCG. No-divisions means you put your top two teams in the CCG, so if one "division" isn't any good, you still have your best matchup in the CCG to try to get the Access Bowl.

That website is not official, and that schedule matrix is now meaningless. The American will redo their schedule in 2022 for the years that follow based on their composition at that time, and also upon the NCAA rulings concerning Division play and/or another 2 year waiver extension (IMHO very likely should the Division-less format not be settled by rule).

My WAG is the other conferences will be watching how the AAC Division-less format works, to gauge whether or not it would be desirable for their own conferences and whether the rules should be loosened to allow it.

One can make a good argument for P12, SEC, ACC and B1G to go Division-less. Basically that the divisions are often unbalanced with the top 3 ranked teams in one side, the other division sending a mediocre team to the CCG. And also that many rivalry games are broken (underscored by UNC and Wake scheduling each other as non-conference opponents the two years the ACC left their cross rivalry game off the schedule). The latter is the stronger driver.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is Divisions my be a non-issue by 2022, or if they still are the debate will be sufficiently far along that another 2 year waiver will be granted while the FBS membership attempts to build a consensus on the issue.

Divisionless was approved.

I think the set up they chose is based on AD concern about fairness.

Coming up with tie breakers should be easy:

H2H
Best record s as gainer common conference opponents
If still tied after to that go by the record of the uncommon opponents
Coin flip
