South Carolina BOT members meet with AD prospect
Interesting article from the ABC affiliate in Columbia

Looks like some BOT members are unhappy with Ray Tanner if I'm reading this right.

Current George Mason AD Brad Edwards was approached with the opportunity to have a spot in the department and be groomed for the AD position. Sounds like some BOT members didn't know anything about it though.

Tanner is popular down there, but I'm not sure he was the best fit for the AD position. These days you need someone who is business savvy and more of a CEO type. The old school coaches should be involved in an athletic department, that's just common sense. Nonetheless, there's a lot to the job other than picking coaches.

Maybe this is a subtle way of firing Ray Tanner without actually firing Ray Tanner?

Or, maybe this is a way of keeping Ray Tanner by covering his deficits.

RE: South Carolina BOT members meet with AD prospect
Heard a few tidbits on this over the weekend - the current consensus is that Ray Tanner is going to "retire" as AD within the next few months and take more of an ambassador position with the university. He's in hot water with a lot of fans right now for a lot of various reasons, but the short version is he's managed to piss off a lot of women's basketball fans, men's basketball fans, and now football diehards with his ineptitude.

The Brad Edwards thing was actually a few rogue BOT members trying to sneak their guy back into the equation, but I understand that the newspaper reports about this were leaked by those opposing it and now his supporters are backtracking a bit.

It's going to be a chaotic few months in Columbia, unfortunately.
