I like seeing the all freshmen lineup to see their individual attributes.

Really like these Freshmen. Christmas may be my favorite guy. He's doing it all right now and completely taken this game over.

RE: Shenandoah
This is the kind of effort I was expecting the entire game. Now a 40+ point lead.
I'm not going to say this group of 5 is better than our starting 5, but they are working pretty good together. Some nice passing and pressure. More importantly, not many unforced turnovers.
But then again we are playing a D-III school. BUT they are doing right now what they should be doing.... dominating.

Somebody else mentioned it previously, but I'm getting that Cam Smith feeling again. Sad, because I had high hopes. Hope he heals up and can play some.

I hope the play of these freshmen will give Rowe confidence to use his bench down the line. These guys can play.

Happy we handled business, but what's up with Banks? 0-10 fg? Something must be off with him.

I "kinds maybe" understand the two close schools we now play, but why a small school 50-60 miles away?

Halftime
JMU 39
Doah 23

Not sure it is a benefit playing schools that are so under matched.

Every team schedules a d2 or d3 during the regular season. It’s just the way folks schedule now. Not a bad place for it early in the year between the UVA game and Mason/Odu road games.

Take the exhibition win and move on. There is really nothing to be concerned with when playing a DIII team. It does not count in the NCAA NET ranking.

I am looking forward to the next 2 games against former CAA rivals George Mason and ODU.

Hoping it's just an early season slump or teething pains with the new 3 point distance. I know Coach Oppenheimer is a "shot doctor", but Banks already had an above average 3 point shooting percentage. Wouldn't think Banks would be a candidate for altering the stroke but who knows?

I'm hoping these freshmen push some guys for playing time. Nobody should be given anything just because of their class or whether they've started previous years.

After stepping away from the ledge and watching the highlights I see how this game serves as a good confidence booster for our young guys after a tough game in Cville. Others have mentioned that a lower level game early isn't uncommon for other mid major programs. While I would have maybe liked to see this as an additional exhibition game with EMU, I think it's a positive for where the team is right now. Hope Banks gets out of this funk or works threw a possible new shot with the extended 3 line. Good win but now begins a a stretch of two tough road games against former conference mates who has passed the program by. Go Dukes!

Anders --

I was expecting you to go back and watch the Madizone replay to give us a blow by blow analysis! In all seriousness, it is available and I'll probably go back and watch some of it to check out how the freshman played. I had it on in the background for the first 10 minutes of play and had enough when down 17-12 at that point. Shenandoah might be the worst team I've ever seen JMU play, by the way. Certainly, among the worst. EMU seemed considerably more capable.07-coffee3

yes this is the only concerning thing from this game for me.......banks seems to think too much/press when things don't go good. He may be one of those guys that it is important to run some kind of play early to try an get an easy score to get him going and have confidence each game.

i took a quick count for this week only...i counted 63 games between D1 and non-D1 schools.

that's roughly 18% of all D1 teams. (i'm sure BDK will give me the exact % to 8 decimals)

that's just this week. but yea, let's continue to act like JMU playing one is so out of the ordinary.

I do see that plenty of DI schools dance with non-DI's. Does that make it right for JMU? Exhibition, I'm perfectly okay with. We need all the countable wins we can get. There's plenty of not very competitive DI's within an easy bus ride to Harrisonburg, i.e. Lehigh or Appy, that we could do deals with where we'd be a touch quicker to thump our chest over a W.

but you realize why there are so many more now right?

because the NCAA changed from allowing 2 preseason exhibitions to only 1 now a number of years back.

that's why you have these secret scrimmages and why you see those "exhibition" games now being scheduled as regular season games. Coaches want tune-ups.

nothing has changed. it's just one of the two "exhibitions" now counts in the standings. and people are all up in arms over it for some reason.
