RE: Gavitt Tipoff Games
Love this tournament every year. Ohio State getting the chance to play some great Big East schools is great for us.

Note: I don't think Ohio State is 25 points better than Villanova. One team was hot and the other, not so much.

Best of luck to your teams this year.

Big East & Big Ten!

they drop a horrible ooc loss every year like clockwork. it's painful to see them underachieve every year with that talent. that team this year is loaded beyond belief and they still can't figure it out

it's so strange because they underachieve in OOC play, but then come conference play if anything they overachieve.

Cooley is way better against teams he knows, which is not exactly surprising or unique, but the difference is really stark for providence for some reason. Still, I don't think they've ever finished higher than third in conference, so it's not like they've been all that successful.

this phenomenon is particularly frustrating because it hurts the conference so badly. underperform ooc, pull upsets in conference, lay an egg in the tournament. it pisses me off every year

yep. wouldn't necessarily say lay an egg in the tourney- but rather due to all of those bad losses, they wind up with in the 5 years they made the tourney 6,9,10,11, and 11(first 4) seeds. So always stuck in brutal 1st round matchups.

true, but would still like better than 1 win in 5 years

cooley gets a lot of credit for 5 tournament appearances, but they have snuck in by the skin of their teeth multiple times and they haven't capitalized on any of of them.

Totally agree... Of course got absolutely screwed the 1 time they did get a 6 seed... playing Dayton in Columbus. With absolutely the worst Technical Foul that I have ever seen.... (by worst I mean how a ref can call it).
