RE: Game 11: Towson
What are you gonna do? I have been saying for years that we are largely irrelevant in the top ranks of FCS football and today is one more piece of evidence that the last few years of Laycock were almost criminally negligent in allowing us to fall further and further behind teams like JMU and North Dakota State. London needs time to recruit players or get dissatisfied FBS transfers that can actually compete at the top echelon of FCS football. Rebuilding a dumpster fire takes time. Let’s see what we look like in 1-2 more years.

Game 11: Towson
Just pathetic. I feel bad for our seniors.

Hopefully things will be different next week in Richmond.

CAA football is like Snow White and the seven Dwarfs. We are one of the Dwarfs; literally and figuratively.

That game was a mess and people aren't coming to the games to watch either. The crowd was almost non-existent. 6738 was the official attendance. No chance there were that many people there. Sure, it was chilly, but man, come on. This team is way more fun to watch than previous years even when they lay an egg. People are holding grudges or even worse have given up.

Fans will come to see a good product. Right now we don't have a good product.

We have won 8 conference games in the last 4 years and this is the 4th straight year we will finish below .500

I do think we are going in the right direction now but... it will take at least 3 good recruiting classes to be competitive. Right now we have 1 good recruiting class, who are all 18 years old.

I don't think it will take that long, at least it better not. Remember that this recruiting class wasn't even a true class. London was doing the best he could, with players he'd recruited at Howard plus some guys (Yoder) who had already given verbal commits. I think we are way ahead of last year in terms of offense (not today), but the record doesn't lie as you point out.

London inherited a FCS semifinalist, left after 2 years, and the team left won 9 games the next two years. He went to UVA and created a sinkhole. Most telling is that is the only place he stayed more than two years as a head coach. He left Howard after two years. His career as an assistant is full of short-term stays at places.

1) Why do we think he's the guy to oversee a long term rebuilding project?
2) Why do we think he'll stick around to oversee the project and not jump the first chance he gets?

Zable has been secretly expanded overnight. If there were 6738 people in there today, the place will hold 25,000-30,000 when full. If there were 3,000 people there, that’s being generous.

Football has a problem. Attendance and enthusiasm for the product is way down. The trend has been apparent all year, and today was rock bottom.

Right now, and I include myself, the fan base doesn’t care. The trick is going to be to get them to care again. Hard or easy to fix? Not sure.

It could be worse. Currently sitting in the Alamodome watching Southern Miss play UTSA in front of a crowd that has to be less than 10K. If this is what “big time” football is, ODU and JMU can have it. Conference USA is a joke.

Winning draws fans and we have struggled for 4 years with a losing record including one year of a perfect CAA record of 0-8. Add to that the crappy weather today and 3,000 fans with butts in the seat is an achievement. We should give the program time to rebuild and keep caring thou I admit today I also did not care.

The Flo Sports thing also makes me care less, tbh. I've watched way fewer games this year because of it, so I'm just overall less invested in the team.

Fanatics mailing it in.

Fans who live within an hour's drive won't muster the energy to attend games.

Students stopped showing up after our opening new toy game.

Pathetic.

RE: Game 11: Towson
Random thoughts from a cold, cold afternoon at Zable:

1. Okay, on the last drive of the game we actually played with a sense of urgency (albeit misplaced because we were down by 21), we were quick to the line, quick to run the play, and throwing quick darts downfield (and not just side-to-side like usual). We actually moved the ball better than we had all game and the only thing that stopped the drive was three penalties for 45 yards all on one play (with 0:03 left on the clock). So my question is: why didn't we play like that all game???? Serious question. I wish the coaching staff would give a serious answer. Now that was a go-go offense!

2. Other than that last drive, the offense really sucked. I am finding it harder and harder to take Mathis seriously as a full-time QB because he is simply just not accurate throwing the ball downfield. All of his sideline throws just sail over the head of the receiver straight out of bounds. He fails to see receivers wide open -- even before he gives up too soon and takes off downfield. Which leaves him as just a runner -- a runner not big enough and not strong enough to take all the hits he takes (three more years of these beatings?). He also fumbles too much. But, yeah, he is still a step up from what we had recently and all of those errors are coachable and fixable.

3. The defense also sucked. We definitely had more missed tackles than actual tackles.

4. There were several questionable coaching decisions. Right at the end of the first quarter we had 4th down and the wind at our backs. But the team couldn't get off the punt in time and so we punted in the second quarter against the wind. Even if the team couldn't get off the play in time then London should have called a timeout (which are basically worthless in the first half) so that he could still punt with the wind at his back. Then in the third quarter we again had 4th down but this time the staff were going for it. But then they wound up taking a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. It was dumb not to have a play ready and run it in time and it was even dumber to blow a precious 2nd half timeout there (well, okay, maybe this game they weren't so precious -- but I'm talking about normal clock management in normal games). London really needs to work on that ...but after all these years of coaching it seems very unlikely that he will ever change.

But I haven't given up on the Tribe. I will still buy season tickets again next year. (Unless Huge commits another egregious boner that could be classified as the straw that broke this camel's back).

RE: Game 11: Towson
It was bitterly cold at Zable yesterday due to the unrelenting wind and and we, for the first time, left the misery at halftime.

Coach London has a big recruiting job to do and, hopefully, next fall's arrivals--representing his first full recruiting class--

****DELETED****

In my opinion we need offensive and defensive linemen and a couple of fast, tall receivers. And I'm sure London
will bring in a quarterback or two in case Mathis gets hurt or doesn't get better.

Zorch, the reason that we moved the ball at the end of the game was because Towson was fine with us running out the clock for them.

Game 11: Towson
Left at halftime. Between the wind and the dominant first half performance by the Tigers, it seemed like a no brainer.

Given the time the D was on the field I’m not surprised at how they performed, but at this stage why are they still tackling so high?

Still not impressed with the soft zone coverages we play.

The offense was totally over matched by the Towson D. Except for Burdick’s pass, not much going on. You could see Flacco going through his progressions in the pocket while Mathis watched his prime receiver only on more than one throw.

Disappointing this late in the season. Glad the last series was played with urgency. Time of possession was awful.

Happy about the start of the MBB season.

Class post of the decade.

Your post is shameful.

An apology and retraction is in order, IMO.
