NIU LAST 20 YEARS
So, with theee games left to go, I am wondering if this is the worst season, we have witnessed in the last 20 years. We will have a better idea over the next
3 weeks.

With 3 weeks to go, this is the second worse season I can recall. Novak's last year was brutal..Lots of injuries, Ryan Morris, had to start, and I still think we did not utilize Jamal Anderson enough....I know we did not burn redshirts.

The other year I can recall as being as brutal as this year was the year Carey decided to convert Maddie to a WR, and ended up being our qb. That year too much Graham, not enough Huff.

I think that team had more talent than Novak's last years version. Let's see what happens the next three weeks.

Curious, knowing what we know now, how do you see the next 3 games unfolding

2007 is the only Worse comparison I can think of, if we have a losing season in the MAC this year.

Yeah Novaks last year was worse. Similar injury situation too. I think recruiting did drop off somewhat for Novaks ending at NIU , much like the drop in talent Carey left behind

The injuries affected the record. Since Novak was leaving, he didn't burn a y red shorts to pad his record. This helped Kill.

A coach thinking of the program over self, that is a novel concept! Sure have not had that type of character at head coach for awhile

This gets over blown a little. And while this turned out to be a mistake in the end, it wasn't that crazy if you look at what was happening prior. Hare was clearly the best QB and your starter. Ryan Graham was coming off of the only good stretch of his career at the end of 2015 when he came in as a freshman and lead NIU to 3 straight victories over Toledo, Buffalo and WMU. So there was reason to believe he was the future. And Maddie had done very little at QB in 2014 but he was an incredible runner/athlete so to leave him on the bench as the #3 QB seemed like a waste.

Graham was only the named the starter for two games before he was pulled and Maddie replaced him.

[iBig time pro Carey, regardless of that call.however, Maddie was the real deal..Graham was tough...but not a d 1 starting qb...appreciate all he did for us[/i]

If I’m not mistaken, Jerry Kills first year was full of injuries as well.

RE: NIU LAST 20 YEARS
I am enjoying this year despite last week's thumping. I really like what Bowers has to offer and the TEs have really stepped up. I'd love to see the double TE set utilized like it was in the second half of the Ohio game. The wide open passing really opened up the running game and that last drive to set up the FG was a thing of beauty. Why we're not seeing more of it is beyond me. We need to build around the double TE set. I'd also love to see Childers in goal line. PJ uses his TE as the wildcat in goal-line situation and he leads the nation in goal-line efficiency. The defense isn't nearly as fun to watch as it was the last two years but it was really special. If we had that defense this year, it would've been to watch. Hopefully, we can rebuild the LB corps and the secondary develops and we can enjoy much success in the near future...
