Then we finally beat them in 05 and they get a bowl game and we do not.
That was after that terrible heartbreaking 30-31 loss to Akron.

I know this may not be a wise thing to say, but I seriously still question if everything was on the up and up in that 2005 Toledo game. After what came out in 2007 about that time period, and watching some of the tape from that game, one really has to wonder.

Well. Toledo is also having a down year. It’s a weird year for the MAC.

2007 Toledo came 5th in the MAC West and NIU came 6th.
The score was Toledo 70- NIU 21

I just can't get into the Toledo hate this year. Something about loss of LBs and O-linemen, and lack of some other things.
I have zero expectations of a good close game.

I can still get my bile up for the Rockets. They owned us for decades; beating us several times when NIU clearly had a better team.

But, I have a grudging respect for them. Saw Chuck Ealey in one of his last collegiate games. There was palpable excitement on the NIU campus before that contest. Even the Northern Star was agog with this guy going for his 30+ consecutive win.
