MBB Game 3 - - @ Wofford
I'm not as concerned about guarding Wofford man up. They don't have the quickness to hurt our guards. What worries me is their ball movement. Tribeheart pointed out last game this teams tendency to go under screens. A smart shooting team like Wofford will tear that up. You have to fight over the screen.

I noticed our players going under screens against AU and was yelling at the TV. However, in the post game Dane mentioned that AU was taking the shots we wanted, but was just making them at an ungodly clip early and that we had to trust the game plan, which ultimately won out (paraphrasing). Leads me to believe the decision to go under screens that game was very intentional. We did not do this at High Point to my recollection. Had we lost at AU one could have questioned the decision given the number of jumpers they knocked down coming off screens. It'll be interesting to see how we play ball screens tonight. Regardless of tactical merit, I do agree with Dane its important not to panic if things don't go to plan out the gates.

I'm no coach, but I'd prefer going over the screen and conceding possibly a midrange jumper in traffic (Not usually an easy shot) or a path towards help from our bigs. Going under allows very good shooters to get up a shot in rhythm without a hand in their face. Seems to play to their strength.

I agree, no argument from me on the tactical merits of going over/under screens. I just found it interesting that it seemed to be a coaching decision and not the players choosing how to play it.

RE: MBB Game 3 - - @ Wofford
You guys have done a good job of clarifying what I poorly tried to say. We have historically been pretty bad in putting pressure on the 3 point shooter AND handling guard penetration. Certainly a bad combo to handle poorly. I am seeing from this team what appears to be a strong emphasis on both tough man to man defense and help defense and what I was trying to say is that I believe that Wofford will give us a good early report card on our progress. I look forward to tonight's game.

I think that the decision to go under screens was made with an eye towards Sa'eed Nelson's quickness. I'd hope that against a team with an emphasis on outside shooting like Wofford we would fight over screens and force them to take the drive. Definitely something interesting to watch for tonight.

RE: MBB Game 3 - - @ Wofford
Wofford's ball movement is very good. They penetrate and kick back out for open 3 point shots, and they will push the ball and find spot up 3 point shooters on the break. If we continue to play strong defense and limit open shots, then our size advantage will outweigh their shooters. Depth should be a factor again down the stretch, if we can get into their shooters' legs early. Wofford plays very hard and we have to play harder. A nice test for how much will to win this team has.

Wofford hasn't lost a regular season game since December 19 of 2018 to Mississippi St. Insane.

Good luck tonight.

It's interesting that Wofford had back-to-back games scheduled at Oklahoma and Stanford last year, similar to our schedule this year. (Their Stanford game was cancelled due to poor air quality because of California wildfires).

Good time for a timeout. Our play has been very poor on both ends the last few minutes.

They are doubling the pass recipient out front and the trap has really disrupted our offense.

They are only 6 of 17, but we already have 3 TO's and 4 personal fouls.

Also, I like the announcers, but the camera work leaves something to be desired
