"More practice time" Yea has really led to an improved team over the years...05-stirthepot

I live in Chicago and have a lot of friends who went to NIU, so it's more about bragging rights.

We have no chance at the MAC West. About the only thing we do fairly well is punt and kick FGs. I wouldn't even want to see us in a bowl game this year. Yikes.

ya-da ya da fretting over the frets of others.

This boils down to, let's face it, the BG game. Swap any other loss for that one, and the collected nerves are not so frayed. Swap even a respectable loss for that one, and the collected nerves are not so frayed.

For that matter, if they had played poorly against BYU and CSU and fine against conference....

perception. Some reality but highly perception.

The other issue in regards to this season and a bowl, is the poor performance in bowls in recent years makes many fans less interested in the opportunity, but unless team end season on 3 game losing streak, they are going to a bowl whether some fans like it or not.

It's one thing to play good FB and lose. BGSU followed by Ball St, one bad team and a mediocre
one are two of the worst back to back UT losses I've
watched in my 50+ years of Rocket FB.

It also comes down to, would you rather have a bad loss or a good win?
Our house has a deep basement that can lose to BGSUcks and lose by 38 to Ball State but has 4 stories and have an attic, that can beat BYU and WMU.

I think it comes down to potential and missed opportunities, fan responses are much worse and drives plenty of deserved criticism if the team is expected to perform well, comes in with high expectations and falls short. Much more so if team is expected to play poor and have down year and does so.

If we win all of our home games and play a B1G in Detroit you don't want that?

If we win 8 or 9 games and have the best record in the MAC, you don't want a bowl?

If Miami or EMU go 6-6 and bowl over us, that's okay?

If Toledo gets to play another similarly ranked team from CUSA or the SBC, with this team who starts only 6 seniors, you don't want that?

From that point after two MAC road losses, at 4-3, if someone told you we would go 4-1 or 5-0 after, you don't want that?

You don't have to want to attend, but you don't want to see us in a bowl?? Id have to believe you are in the minority, with three not impossible games left on the schedule.

Only to see Candel and company get out coached and out motivated into another blow out Boawl loss...... I'll pass

Candle is 1-3 in bowl games:
15 point victory over Temple
3 point loss to App State
34 point loss to App State
3 point loss to FIU

Your wording makes it sound like we get blown out every time? When our current coach has lost two slim games, and only lost once badly... In a year we won the MAC, and had the same bowl opponent as the prior year. I'd like him to have a better bowl record, but for comparison BSU, NIU, and Kent State have never won bowl games! EVER! AND LIKE ALL OF THEM ARE BLOWOUTS. IT'S A MAC THING.

NIU has won 4 bowl games, but the last one was 2011 against Arkansas State. After that it's been all downhill, though the Orange Bowl was at least competitive for 3 quarters or so. With Carey, most of our bowl games were blowouts, even with the pretty decent teams. First bowl win was 1983 against Cal St - Fullerton, with Mallory as coach. Bill Mallory, not Mallory from Family Ties. 03-wink

We used to be a top 5 program in bowl win percentage. Every year, ESPN would feature a cool segment and graphic displaying Toledo as one of the top bowl programs....not so much anymore after recent years of losing all these "exhibitions that don't matter."

So we shouldn't play in bowl games in years like this to preserve that stat?

I get the whole extra practice, an extra 3-4 weeks of the players working on football but if we finish 7-5, I’d rather we pass on a bowl. No sense in spending thousands of dollars in travel costs to go south and lose by 30 to FAU, App St, or whatever G5 program that we should beat on paper. Even if the bowl game means nothing, it’s damaging to the program when you get blown out by teams you really should beat. It’s clear either the players don’t take these bowl games seriously and/or the coaching staff can’t prepare for them. I’ll save my money for September games where we at least try to compete with P5 or really good G5 programs...

Again, we lost to App by 3, then they blew us out when we didn't give A F To play them again, then lost by 3 to FIU. We don't get blown out in all of our bowl games.
