MAC Women’s Lacrosse

Don’t see a topic on this yet but think it is a nice add for a growing sport

Hope Toledo adds a team

Bizarre that Youngstown St would be needed to start the league. Thought the. aC didn’t want anything to do with them.

Women's lacrosse is not FBS. Kind of a big difference. The MAC has a long list of associate members in various non-revenue sports: WVU, Missouri, Old Dominion, SIU Edwardsville, App State, Longwood, and maybe even others I missed.

Adding a school like YSU to a fledgling non-revenue sport won't make a ripple in the MAC's identity. Adding them for football would be very different plus it makes no sense on so many levels: geographic, academic, competitiveness, resources, facilities, etc.

Also there are a relative lack of teams in that sport so it makes for a very different situation than football where the conference already has 12 members and little reason to need to get more and if we did there are many options to choose from and so you can be a bit more choosy.

Good for travel ... three Northeast Ohio schools, Southeast Michigan Schools and CMU.

Not saying that Youngstown State is like WVU or Mizzou where the would count themselves lucky that either school needs a spot in a sport that the MAC sponsors ... but neither is it like they'd be itching to see a replacement for the Penguins.

The only reason either Detroit Mercy or Youngstown would get nervous would be if there was word of another MAC school looking to start the sport. But even then, if there were two, they could well just add both and stand at eight.
