Opening home game tomorrow night. After the great effort at Temple this should be a big opening victory. Hopefully everyone has been promoting the hell out of this team and prepared to have a near sellout crowd for this game. I look forward to seeing how our lineup looks and how minutes are distributed against a team we favorably match up against compared to a big team like Temple.

Niagara has not played a game yet so they will be ready. Niagara is already fighting adversity as their coach stepped down October 24, a mere 7 months after being hired. It was the son of John Beilein. Hopefully he gets everything taken care of and gets back into coaching. Their new coach is Greg Paulus, who obviously had a standout career at Duke. Very young, will be interesting to see how he does at the helm so quickly. They do return Marvin Prochet, a forward, who scores 15.7 point and grabs 7.3 rebounds a game. He should be the main focus tomorrow.

RE: Niagara
Thanks for the recap. I was not aware of the coaching adversities that they're dealing with. Drexel has traditionally had great turnouts for their Friday night home openers. Last year, they didn't have a true opener because their first home game was against Bryn Athyn. Hopefully the DAC is packed to capacity tonight, and the Dragons get a victory.

RE: Niagara
If the crowd is large, a big victory here could go a long way keeping them coming back, regardless of the quality of Niagara.

RE: Niagara
32-31 at half Niagara leads. Crowd looks sparse, student section looks fine. 9 turnovers was a lot. After falling way down and taking a timeout we put starters back in and went on a big run. Not sure if Spiker is tinkering ala Denise to find what works, but some players are certainly not helping us. Tadas is rough to watch. He adds nothing to this team. TJ still looks likes we will be a wonderful players. Cam/Juric combo is working for us. Kurk does not seem to be helping, but we need to get something beyond turnovers from him

Starting to go on a run. Being aggressive. Decent defense but every time we get a stop we seem to miss on the other end. We lead 54-50 with 7:31 left

66-58 we lead with 2:05 remaining. Went on a nice run to get up by 10. Seems like we may be a streaky momentum type team. When one is hitting all are hitting. That is fine as long as you can get stops and make some shots. Okros hit a couple big shots.

72-64 win. Was not always pretty but a win over a team we should beat at home. 19 turnovers was not good.

Is something wrong with Kirk Lee? He was our "star" last year and he isn't playing much.

Personally, I think that three years ago he was the best player on a team that was really lacking in talent. Drexel has much better players now and he's now a bench guy, who will have to earn back his playing time.

No love for Butler? 22 points and 15 boards.

RE: Niagara
Nice win tonight, but I do think that they may have played down to the competition. It was really just a trade baskets type of game until late. Once Drexel trailed 48-44 with about 8 minutes left, they really turned on the burners both offensively and defensively.

I just wanted to give my opinions on some items related to the non-basketball game presentation.
1. Student section was great tonight, but way too many empty chair-back seat. Not sure of poor attendance will just be the new norm at the DAC, but for a home opener on a Friday night, I was expecting a much larger crowd. There were no events going on in the Hazem suite either tonight, which is usually a popular spot at the DAC.

2. New PA Announcer Kevin Casey was solid. He's a very professional announcer who does PA for the Union, and I think also La Salle. His style isn't much different from Jeff Asche, but with a little more pizzazz and humor. He's also not one of those over the top homers...he doesn't scream when the home team scores and whisper when the visiting team scores. I hate announcers like that.

3. New Pep Band Director - I think that they over played the Drexel Fight Song. They played it instead of the Rocky theme when the players ran out onto the court. They also played it after the victory. I was nervous that they were going to nix Celebrate after the win, but they did play it after the final PA announcements. Celebrate has been a victory staple song at the DAC for years so it needs to continue.

4. Game Day Presentation is still pretty blah. Need a video board badly. Even the Division III gym that hiroshimacarp attends games at has a video screen.

Butler was a beast tonight. Let's hope that he can dominate like that in CAA play this year.

Yes, Kevin does LaSalle as well.

Bickerstaff needs to start over Green. Green only played 7 minutes and was the starter. I get that he is a senior but I like what I see out of Bickerstaff!

RE: Niagara
There is plenty of love for Butler. He is arguably our best player. He is constantly solid. I was more remarking on players that are new or struggled against temple.

As far as Kurk, he definitely is being outplayed and needs to earn his role back. Spiker seems to be playing those who earn it, not those who "deserve it based on the past". Through 2 games, it could be argued with how he played, that he played too much. Kurk's iso style isnt really a great fit on this current team and when he is in there we struggle and turn it over a lot. I understand the lack of confidence in him currently. With that said, we need him to gain confidence back to spell both Wynter and Juric. Spiker seems like 2 point guards out there, so we need to be able to spell them at times. The other option he hasnt really shown is moving someone else to the 2 and going bigger. I would imagine that is game specific.

I don't think it matters who starts necessarily, as a lot of times coaches like to bring one of his stronger players off of the bench early to bring in a fresh player when the opponent is subbing in weaker players.

Assuming players stay healthy (and as we as Drexel fans know....that's a HUGE assumption), Spiker will have a main 6 man rotation of Mate, Matey, Walton, TJ, Cam and Butler. Kurk, Doles, Green, Coletrain, Tadas, and Perry will get limited minutes off of the bench in spot situations. I know that Perry is hurt, but Drexel hasn't had this many healthy players at one time in 7 YEARS. The key to this season will be growth and staying healthy.

Butler was the difference maker out there tonight - big points, huge rebounds - beast. Saw some impressive things from Mate, Matey and of course TJ. Still way too many turnovers and we need to make teams pay for over playing the passing lanes - Princeton backdoor style. If they can do that more and take better care of the ball, this team can be a major factor in the CAA. Defense looks to be much better in the first 2 games.

TJ should start because coming off the bench to get hot usually takes longer even if it’s only 7 minutes. When is Perry expected to be back?

Do you give this feedback to the people in athletics? It seems like everyone has the same opinion and is tired of the ****** attendance...when is someone going to do something?
