His stock is soaring. LSU dismantled UGA and the Tigers passing game was, again, unstoppable.

BTW, wiki says he makes $2mil/yr

We didn't let him get away. He had an opportunity at PSU (because of Tribe Football ties) so he jumped on it. PSU didn't let him get away when he left for the NO Saints. It's not like he left W&M to be an assistant at VMI.

RE: Joe Brady
I don’t think the Joe Brady today is the Joe Brady when he was unpaid assistant just after his playing days. The players credit Joe with brining drills and philosophy he gained with the Saints. To his credit he’s developed into a very effective and innovative coach. It’s cool to see.

Definitely the right move there. Difference between Joey Harrington and Joe Montana. :)

More semantics, I guess. Actually, to me, those examples are the very definition of "letting him get away". Contrast that with LSU which, according to everything I've read, is determined to keep him in the bayou regardless of how much money it takes. He could leave for an OC job at a P5 or even take a head coaching gig somewhere but LSU is determined to do whatever it takes to make sure that he "does not get away".

RE: Joe Brady
IF LSU wins the national championship, there is no reason for him to stay there except money. If I were him, I would wait for an OC opportunity at NFL level.

How much money do you think we have to pay assistant coaches? How much does Penn State or the Saints have? I guarantee when he left us he got a big pay raise, if he's truly making 1.5-2 million at LSU he's making 4 times what our head coach makes. Not gonna fault a guy for leaving W&M for those type of opportunities.

Since he has coached both in the NFL and at the college level, I'd think he has a better sense of which suits him better and trust him to choose for himself. It would appear that OC is the logical next step, but as hot as he is, he'll have opportunities for whatever position he wants at different levels, of course.

RE: Joe Brady
I would think that his next big move is a head coach at a P5 school or OC at the NFL level. I'd pick the NFL all day long. More of a business, no academics or recruiting to worry about, but it could be nomadic. Either way this guy has a great future ahead of him.

Yeah, I would say that going from unpaid volunteer to paid assistant definitely counts as a big pay raise. Maybe if W&M had actually offered/been able to pay him then maybe he would have stuck around his alma mater for a couple more years. Then perhaps his genius would have shown through and he would have been offered the OC job that went to DJ Mangas. The possibilities of other paths are endless.......

Scene: Laycock's office, 2013

"Hey coach, I have some ideas about the passing game that might help things. Can I share them?"- Brady

"That's nice, Joey, but I have the offense under control. Go work the linebackers instead. And grab a Werther's on your way out of the office."- Laycock

When "Asked by a reporter outside the LSU locker room in Mercedes-Benz Stadium if his future was in Baton Rouge", just after beating Georgia. "Absolutely....absolutely." When pressed further about any LSU discussions: “I’m not going to comment on that stuff,” he said politely. “Right now, I’m just going to enjoy some time with the guys.”

What else would he say at that moment?
