You realize all Bourbon is whiskey, right?

Scotch is Whiskey. Rye is Whiskey. Bourbon is a candy drink for effeminate southerners.

LOL. Go look up the grain content of Bourbon, Tennessee sippin' whiskey, Rye whiskey, and Scotch. And go tour the distilleries and learn the process. Same in all. They all make beer first, then white dog moonshine, then distill it a couple more times.

Same ingredients, just a slightly different mash bill for each, and a different proof. Most are a mash of corn, rye and barley in some percentage. Bourbon just typically has more corn (51% minimum).

All bourbons are whiskeys. Just apparently not ones you prefer.

Personally, I can't stand any type of Scotch, but I like many of the others (Bourbon or Rye).

Here's another little tidbit. All bourbon has to be aged in new white oak barrels, burned to a #3 or #4 char. Guess where the barrels go after the bourbon is done? Mostly to Europe to age rye and scotch, lol.

Then they go to Mexico or the Caribbean to age tequila and rum, usually one and then the other.
I'm aware of all of that. The problem with Bourbon is the Corn mash. It makes it too sweet; hence, why I called it "candy for effeminate southerners"

I figured that was your objection. I said bourbon has more corn. Different strokes.

My palate, when tasting 80+ proof alcohol, isn't that concerned about how much corn is there, lol.

The LAST thing I would call bourbon is "candy."

I do like some ryes, late in life, but scotch has always been a taste that makes me grimace. Although I seriously doubt all that makes me "effeminate." 03-lmfao

I just don't think you've found the right scotch.

I'm 72. I'm not planning on trying again. I just know I hated scotch in my 20s and 30s. But I love bourbon and TN whiskey. And now rye. All on the rocks.

Like I said, different strokes. I'll just stick to being southern and effeminate.

P.S. Have you ever tried any wheated bourbons? That may change the taste profile enough to get your interest.

Give me a Bombay Saphire with tonic and a lime, and I'm a happy camper. Otherwise beer is good enough for me

Kinda shocked me. :D

First basketball game I went to there in 84 we snuck beer in which was SOP for me. We run dry and my girlfriend brings back two beers after going to the restroom. Who knew they sold beer at the games?

We had a college tavern in our student center...is this unusual?

Also, had a first generation ATM that spit out either $25 or $50. That was dangerous...as crumpled up receipts after a night of drinking never got recorded in my check register.

Big difference between what Gin you're drinking. Nothing is worse than bad Gin or Scotch.

Fun consumption stats from Homecoming in Glazer Club (1500 ppl)

2,449 12 oz. beers
67 btls Wheatley Vodka
36 btls Buffalo Trace
2 btls Blantons
4 btls Gin
145 btls of wine
50 cases chk tenders
20 cases hot dogs
300 lbs lobster
1,900 Crawfish Etouffe
1,800 servings pasta

Wait 36 bottles of Buffalo Trace but only 2 bottles of Blantons. What is the matter with you people?

Buffalo Trace makes Blantons. I tasted both on the KY Bourbon Trail 2 weeks ago. Not much difference, except the price, lol.

Both are really good. I wanted to try Pappy Van Winkle, but they weren't doing tastings of that. Dang.

I just like the taste of Blantons a little better. Plus the horse is cool.

The horse is definitely cool. But living in east Alabama, I have trouble finding Blantons. And I can't afford PVW. So more BT for me.

But the tour and tasting at Buffalo Trace was great.

Try the Weller 12 year. It IS pappy’s. Same mash bill.

Thanks. I've actually done that, years ago. Too bad I forgot what it tasted like, b/c I didn't know.

We may have gotten a Weller tasting this time around, I'm not sure. I recorded it. I'll have to look at the video and see.

My 87 year old dad drinks Weller. It's getting harder to find.

That's awesome. Does anybody know if Memphis put a pub on campus with all the campus upgrades that have been going on the last decade? Like in the new Student University Center or something?

Yeah you right. I have no problem copying anything on the food and drink side from New Orleans.

Or music. Or parasol-making. Or funeral celebrations.
