In football, they had a giant killer reputation and were the self-proclaimed "cradle of coaches", winning big non-conference games and playing high profile programs in the Tangerine Bowl. Miami dominated UC locally in football many seasons. That mojo is completely gone.

I do look forward to the "road trip" this fall and hope our fans turn out to dominate their "crowd". And to Fickell's credit, he's taken that game seriously in terms of preparation. Could it be a trap game this season? Possibly, if our team is ranked and looking ahead to Nebraska.

Miami basketball--totally irrelevant.

Even their hockey has tumbled over the last 4-5 years. From 2004-2014 they had an All American first or second team player every year - not one since.

2014-2015 was their last winning season going 14-9-1
2015-2016 9-13-2
2016-2017 5-14-5
2017-2018 6-14-4
2018-2019 5-17-2
2019-2020 8-21-5

Martin's contract being bumped from $525,000/year to $550,000/year for the next 5 years. Not a huge pay raise and to borrow a phrase from the PR guy from our former hoops HC, possibly a "haircut" when you consider inflation.

On the flip, not too shabby of a gig where the expectation is to hover around .500 and make an occasional bowl.

Especially when you're one randomly good season away from parlaying it into a job making a million plus. If he does well next year, all the sudden he is the guy that returned Miami to relevance and took them to back to back bowl games and is getting looked at for better jobs.

Meanwhile Ohio St. has 4 ASSISTANT coaches making over $1M per year on reportedly the highest paid assistant staff in the country. Tops among their assistants is good old Kerry Coombs at $1.4M per year which probably puts him somewhere among the top 20 paid assistants in the country.

Wow! From your link...

Quote:The former Tennessee Titans secondary coach will earn $1.4 million this season as the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator, which nearly triples his salary from the last time he coached in Columbus, Ohio. That makes him the highest-paid assistant on coach Ryan Day’s staff and one of four OSU staff members who will earn at least $1 million this season.

Kerry's livin' high on the hog now. Good for him if he can get that kinda cash.

He’s done a pretty good job the past dozen years. He’s earned it.
